Poor little chick. She is eating and grooming herself. So that is encouraging ...

That really sucks Amy Beth. Sorry to here ...keep up the good work!

The wound seems to be drying out nicely, dosen't seem as big now, Paperthin skin is so challanging to deal with. Great news she is doing chick things, takes the worry of brain damage out of the picture. Shes got a wonderfull caretaker!

I was going to say it looks better than the first pictures! I'm so glad she seems to be recovering.

We had the light on in our potential brooder tonight to see if it would be about the right temperature and we found this:

Our cat Wash enjoying the heat lamp. Don't worry, it will have a good strong lid before the babies arrive (9 or 10 days!!)

I do have a question, we're getting 25 chicks (hopefully they all make it) and the brooder is a wooden box we'll have inside. The box 2 feet wide and 7 feet long. We were thinking of sectioning off some of it at first. Would you do that? How much of it? And should we use one lamp or two? We have 100 watt bulbs. Thanks!

I'm looking to buy some bantam frizzle or sizzle Cochin fertile hatching eggs. I would like to buy them for My niece for her Birthday.
I have a few little hens in my fun flock and everytime my niece comes over, she tells me how bad she wants them....I think it's time I make her dream come true. If anyone knows Where I can get some, please let me know. I'm thinking she might want to show them in 4H. Thank you, Molly

You need one spot that is 95 degrees. The chicks will move to the warm spot when they are cold. You do not want the whole thing at 95 degrees. They should be fine. I have brooded that many with one bulb.

Great cat picture!
