Kim got to see one of my "Urban Predator" Brooders yesterday. I need to protect the chicks from Cats! House cats that is. Two of them are in the 20# range and they like to sleep on the brooder so the plastic cutouts have fabric cloth on the opening.

Our sweet baby died

She seemed like she was doing so much better, so we went to the feed store to get her a friend before they closed and when we came back she was on her back again, dead. And the two we picked up for her are both sick, too! One was trampled in the corner (think it's circling the drain, sadly) and the other seems like it might make it. I thought, hey, at least they wont trample her. Guess I should have just gotten lively ones. I'm sure if the one dies they'll give me a different one, though. It was my choice, and all the others looked healthy. The worst part is, I think I'll always wonder if maybe she got too hot and couldn't move. If we had stayed home she might have been okay. I'd like to post a black and white picture I took of her before we buried her, but I don't want to bother anyone so you all let me know if that would be alright. It isn't graphic, of course. Just sad. She was so tiny, it looked like she was curled up back in the egg.

I'm so sorry to here you lost your little chick you did everything you could. Sometime it out of our hands... Xoxo

Happy Monday. it is cold out. My chickens are all opened up. 
besides the easter egger chicks in the new brooder.
Chickee can not wait for more.

Nice brooder Jason. Ron, I wasn't going to mention this, but your daughter almost handed over your fancy brooder to me. At first, she thought I was supposed to take the entire set up, instead of just the chicks. I could have had a nice set up with an Eco Glow, lol!

Instead, I have a redneck farmer's version of a brooder.

The chicks don't seem to mind.



The temp is showing 84 degrees but the chicks seem fine. When I move the lamp lower, it spikes to over 100.

Ron, your cats are HUGE. They are twice the size of mine.

Since the chicks have been under the ecoglow, they are toughened up and should be able to handle a bit cooler temps. Sorry you did not get to see the other chicks yesterday. I will have to get photos today.

I need to look for that add! My kids always get see's.... One year I didn't buy them see's ....they noticed!

I think that the ads that pop up are from sites that you have been on or something like that! I know that if I go on Stromberg's or Overstock.com, etc. that those are the ads that pop up for me on BYC. I'm sure a computer person could explain it for us. I guess they are tracking our cookies??? Is that right???
