California - Northern

I bought Cocci-Rid from Revival Animal Health. One of my favorite pet suppliers

It may not be the ideal %, but it is Amprolium. And I was pretty sure I saw it at the Farm Store on down the hill toward Penn Valley from Ridge Feed.

Good Luck

Ooh! Another Grass Valleyian :D Where's Revival Animal Health?

We got the Corid as Ron suggested and started treatment today. We also took them off the medicated feed and bought the same brand of food only non-medicated on Chickee's suggestion. They are all still eating and drinking, so that's good!

Hello everyone. I just got back from a week of onsite and I need some help. I have a marans hen that comb is very pale (almost white) and is not laying. It has been at least 4 weeks. We sepeated her last week and tried sulfed in case she had cocci. I was going to try and give her some general antibiotics ( tylan) by injection to see if it would help but mario found a soft mass in her Lower abdomen. I have been afraid she has something internal :(. She had low energy but was OK until last week but she is going downhill. Mario tried putting her outside yesterday to some sun but she was litliss and getting picked on.

She is walking OK ( no penguins) and the mass does not seem egg like. Plus if she had been egg bound for more then a month I would have a dead hen no?

Any advice? Her poop looks OK and she had been wormed recently. I'm wondering if I should just give her a companion and let her go gently or if there is something to try.....

A "California" Coop is closed on three side with the North side open and covered with hardware cloth and a roof that stick out to catch the rain. There should also be vents at the top.

Ventilation is very important and keeping them out of the wind in the winter is important as well. You do not need insulation. Chickens are their own little insulators...
My coops are closed on all sides, but we are in snow country. North is the non weather side though.
Good thing this is the CA North thread. Others wouldn't believe the California Coop under snow picture.

I candeled today, 19 still going strong, they go into lockdown when we get back from Red Bluff.

The last two bathes went well today, the one I thought would give us the most problem fell asleep in DD's arms while I Dremeled his toenails, go
figure.

We get snow:

Okay, gonna be a bit radical and post some poop. Sorry, but I'm having the HARDEST time getting any help from local feed stores. No one in all of Nevada County has Corid! If they do, it's for cows. I tried Auburn and they have something for Cocci, but it's not Corid. When I checked on the girls this morning this is what I found. Im not sure if it's coming all from one chick or many. This is a marble slab the waterer sits upon. Does this look like Cocci poop? For the most part they all look pretty good. A moth got into the brooder last night and they went NUTS and played "keep away" until it was gobbled up.

Are your chicks puffed up? Might not be cocci. Placer Farm Supply has Corid though, if you need it.

Yes another GV resident. I'm glad you found it. That helps. I have a few from Chickee too. Isn't she great?

:thumbsup

How old is she?

She is the first girl I hatched, so about 2. Plank, who always looked dead when she sunbathed in the brooder...
I had one die last year and I don't know why. She was about the same age. And she just was kinda weak seeming and went downhill. She didn't have any symptoms for me to look up. She was just very pale like you said and got weaker and weaker and passed. I put her In the yard with all the others but in a metal tub and layed her in the sun and she went :( it was so sad but I guess it just happens.
