welcome back Meg, Very nice to hear from you. I am not looking for pullets but would love some Pita Pinta eggs I have a pen being built as we speak !Hi Everyone!!
It's been quite a while since I've had time to post. How is everyone? Gosh it's been so long since I've seen you guys. I am only working 4 hours a day now so I will have time to share again! I've missed BYC!
I have 19 EO eggs and 19 Pita Pinta eggs in my incubator. They went into lockdown today and we expect them to start hatching on Monday. I can't wait to see what comes out! As of 5 days ago, every single egg was fertile and growing. I hope User Error doesn't get in the way of them hatching. I will post pics soon!
I have an EO flock that are very close to the Spanish standard and want to start sharing them with all of you. After next week we will be selling hatching eggs. If anyone is interested please PM me. As for the Pita Pintas, we are still unsure if we're going to do started pullets or eggs yet. We'll decide that next week too. I can't wait to meet my little babies and share pictures! It's been way too long since we had baby chicks in this house!
I hope everyone is having a fabulous Saturday afternoon and I look forward to getting to know everyone (again)!
Megan
Yesterday's turkey hatch.
The fifth poult hatched with a small bit of unabsorbed yolk. I left it in the hatcher overnight and everything looked fairly dried out this morning. I put it in with the others and tutor chicks, of course by the time I went back to check, the chicks had picked it bloody. So it's resting back in the hatcher on it's own. It looks fine, but missed the photo op.
If the size of the snood at hatch was an indicator, I'd go a boy and three girls.
I was planning on it today but ran out of day lightToo early to tell for sure, but it looks like the rooster chicks combs are wider, slightly raised and turning pink. A couple of the obvious ones have bright red feathers starting to show on the top of their heads. Another week and I think you will be able to tell on the wheaten colored ones. The roosters will start to get black and gold patches on the wings and breast. The wheaten marked pullet's breasts and shoulder feathers stay cream colored. I have so many gorgeous colored EE chicks out of this blue wheaten rooster, that I have decided to keep all of the pullets for now. I will keep some of the prettiest ones for my layer flock. If you like you can post pictures of your chicks and I will try and guess their sexes![]()
