In my limited experience,  shipped Marans eggs are a b*tch.  The membrane stretches and the chicks get too big.  OK, I know the chicks get too big in shipped eggs, I guessing from research its the membranes.

Not that this helps you much, but if you REALLY want shipped Marans eggs to hatch, weigh them for the  first 10 days and adjust humidity accordingly.

But, that being said,  nothing is done until 3 days after the fist pip, and big eggs take more time. I don't think it was your incubator or the cooling  phase, its just the nature of the process.    focus on your pipped egg!

OK, thanks. I'm just surprised that coming on 22 days I have one pip.....and only half were shipped so the other 12 I had thought would be popping by now. Not even the egg from my own hen and those went on day 22, early morning. Ok, where's my wine......

It is 88 degrees today so I got to see how the new breeds are doing in the heat. All but the Crele Penes and the Blue egg layers are panting. The Cream Legbars X Crele Penes are panting and have their wings out the farthest. The Bresse has her wings out but not as much as the Barred Rocks.

OH no! I do not know how it happened but somehow my Sizzle roo got to my bantan BLRW. They are locked up- this is crazy. They've been locked up for a couple months. So now I have a Sizzle X bantam BLRW chick...U have 2 more to hatch...they are probably going to also be so. The eggs were laid over a 1 week time frame. I'm SO bummed. What am I going to do with these franken chicks! Ahhh I set 3 more of her eggs a week later- those were total blanks. So the Sizzle somehow must have fertilized her and my banty BLRW is not doing his job. Wah.

ETA I am sorry, though. That would be really disappointing. I know you were really looking forward to having more BLRWs running around. Does bottom fluff need to be trimmed?

Jane, it looks so cute! I love the red. I've enjoyed watching the progress and trying to get inspired to split my Polish hen house into two so I can move the Marans up and out of the garden so we can plant the garden....been fighting the fever, headache, achy body thing so I have little motivation!
