High and dry - if your hatches are late, your temps are low. Get a brinsea spot check and check the temps.

Yummmmmmm, cosmopolitan. One of my favorites. I haven't had a drink in over a month. (I've been dropping weight, so I cut out the extra calories of alcohol) now I want one!
Come on over Kelly.............I'll pour the drinks, fill up the kiddie pool with water and turn the waterfowl loose on the lawn. They are endlessly entertaining.

Ended up with 18 out of 24. 2 of the six that didn't hatch were early quitters but the other 4 were perfectly formed chicks.

I just can't figure out why I'm losing them and why my hatches are late. One chick look a little like it was shrink wrapped, which could be because when I was fooling with the wayward zipper, two other eggs had zipped and it shrunk wrapped them but I helped them out and they're fine and while I was waiting for those two to hatch another hatched overnight that was perfectly fine.

The other 3 hadn't even pipped internally. I have a broody going right now so I'm going to take some time to check the temps and see if any changes need to be made. The company says it comes calibrated from Brinsea and shouldn't need any changes but every couple of years.

Here's the Polish from this hatch:

And a couple of the EE's. I've forgotten just how cute these little puff balls are!
How cute! Those Polish chicks look like some of the eighties hairdo's.

Oh that would be so much fun! But then I'd come home wanting ducks. Too bad I have to go to a school music performance tonight.

I'm hot. Finished getting the rest of my garden in. (Yeah I'm late). Then I moved an auto waterer from one run to another. I installed a water fountain in my big run, and this one wasnt being used any more - just sitting there empty. Now my welsummers have an auto waterer too, so I don't have to worry about them running out in the heat. And the bees love this waterer, so they can use it too.

I certainly will this year! Ah, my drink of choice. I usually have a cosmopolitan in my hand (DH goes with a margarita, LOL).
Ahhh! That was a selfish comment in my part. My purchase to get through the whole season is one of your two week purchases! Will your turkeys be cleaned and ready to go? I don't know how involved you get ... If so you can put me on the waiting list now if you like!

a few pictures from yesterday afternoon:

i hacked a whole bunch of coyote brush out & uncovered this lovely sitting area of old branches on the edge of my meadow, perfect place for watching chicken tv! the girls seem to approve...

my cat sophie watching chicken tv -- that's the whole flock at this point, except for Daisy & her five chicks, who were having a snack in the coop.

and today my handy-man guy is coming to give me an estimate on expanding the coop! i'm thinking of adding two 8x8' pens to one side of the current 8x12' space -- so i'll have more flexibility with separating age groups or breeders or broodies or whatever. and i may be getting two silver campine pullets from Shannon in Vacaville... chicken math continues!

and Grandmas Basket (sorry i don't know your real name), your coop is looking fabulous! i'm taking inspiration from your photo...
Laura, you certainly caught chicken fever, don't say you were not warned. LOL

Wow. First time chick mom. Moved chicks from brooder to newly constructed coop/ attached run yesterday mid afternoon. Last night I scooped them up from the run shortly after 8 and locked them in their coop. Same time tonight I noticed chicks on roosts peeking out though wire inside their coop. Went outside to find all 5 put themselves to bed in the coop. They had not gone in it since i let them out at 6 AM. I am so proud! And relieved that they got the drill first time outside :).

Boy, now that I reread my post it sounds pretty biatchia!

I'm sorry! I just meant that it didn't look like a Polish. It must have taken after the Dad.

She has 5 toes on just one foot so it figures that her crest is half what it should be
