Hey guys, anyone have an ideas as to what's going on with Speckles' comb? It's like purple at the tips. Need to check him today when I get home from work to see if it's different.

He's a sweetie.

Smoke makes them do that. We saw a lot of combs like that last Fall during the fires up by Redding. It will go away.

I have 2 & 2 from you, Ron! They are 14 weeks or so and are the nicest birds! I wasn't really considering breeding them but I am so impressed with how they've grown and their disposition that I am seriously thinking about it. I know that my friend is going to love them! They are going out to the farm today with all of the 12 week old Bresse & Langshans. I'm going to miss them! I'll try to take some pics of them to share. We will probably keep one boy and either find a home for the second one or see how they measure up as meat birds. They are sure built like bricks!
They are very nice. I was looking at my two pullets today and liking them more all the time. They really do grow fast! and are keeping up with the Penedesencas too...Lots of energy in that pen.

mine get that a lot.
a few reasons.
Like Ron said. Enviromental issues.
Smoke High heat frost can cause the purple or sometimes lighter coloring
as far as the spots.
Pox can do that but it goes away. It does not look like that though.
My roosters get that from there combs brushing the no climb fence , or the other rooster poking them through the fence.

Costco has chicken tractors and Organic Feed! Went to the Tracy CA costco today. There was a cute little tractor. Not much room (maybe 2-3 chickens) if you move it often. $185 for it, but looked on their site and they have bigger versions. Cute as a button!! Next to it they had Organic Feed. The same kind the feed stores sell around here. Costco = $20 for 40 pounds, while the feeds stores are $26 for the same bag. Just so shocked to see that at Costco. I thought of putting a "chickens for sale" sign on the display with my phone # , lol!

My Costco has none of that!

I wonder if I can get the one in Woodland to carry at least chicken feed.....Maybe if those of us in the area called to request it?
