Sorry to hear about your birds. I am going crazy with hawks here. It is sooo aggravating. I have everyone on lock down and they are ******.

chickens don't really seem to get the "it's for your own good, i promise!" concept, do they? mine are extremely annoyed that i haven't let them out today.

Does anyone feed their chickens oatmeal? I am adding oatmeal, Omega egg powder, and a probiotic powder to my chicken mash. I will have some sunflowers soon. Anything else? I decided I'm too busy to make fermented food.
Careful with the Omega powder. I bought a 50# bag of flax seed to give my girls Omega 3 and the eggs ended up tasting like fish. Yuk. I threw the seeds in the field and let the girls eat the sprouts instead. Less fishy, but I could still taste a hint of fish.

Have you tried Omega Enriched eggs? If not, perhaps try some before adding Omega to your chickens diet. Trader Joes carries Omega 3 eggs. Personally, I don't care for them.

I do use Omega Ultra egg from Omega Fields--got it from the internet--

The directions say half a cup for 10 birds. I give mine 3/4 of a cup every three days and the eggs taste great!

The Omega brand that TSC sells is not as good. The Hens will not eat it but they eat the one I give them.

Remember our discussion about egg prices and what people will pay?

I was just got back from Coscto and the Kirkland Organic is priced at $3.27 per dozen and the Cage Free is $3.75 per dozen. They are not Heritage eggs either....

I am toying with the idea of getting an order form Dick Horstman for live chicks next spring. If so, I want to get PRs and could share the order.

I did not have luck in getting PRs from shipped eggs this year. I did get two HRIS for myself and a trio? for Pet Rock.
I have 2 & 2 from you, Ron! They are 14 weeks or so and are the nicest birds! I wasn't really considering breeding them but I am so impressed with how they've grown and their disposition that I am seriously thinking about it. I know that my friend is going to love them! They are going out to the farm today with all of the 12 week old Bresse & Langshans. I'm going to miss them! I'll try to take some pics of them to share. We will probably keep one boy and either find a home for the second one or see how they measure up as meat birds. They are sure built like bricks!
