OK not to burst your bubble but most of those breeds will only be available as straight run as chicks. The only place you will get reliable sexing is a hatchery ( and even that's gone down hill) and most of those breeds won't be available from a hatchery.

Last I checked vent sexers get six figures so only big hatcheries employ them. If you want those breeds you are going to have to find breeders who are selling older birds ( not cheap) deal with roosters or get very very lucky. All those things are possible but not all probabl.
Yes! Lots of chicken stock....

So what you're saying is, reality strikes again? Darn.

Then again, for the first batch, I am going for older birds (don't mind paying, but can't do the $65-$85 on top, if I can spend less on gas and pick them up myself).

I'm itching for chicks. Does anyone have any babies available right now?
I have three Silkie chicks that hatched while I was gone or right after I came back, anywhere from a a week old to three weeks old. Broody raised right now - two Blue and a Black. I think one is going to be a Sizzle, not sure on the wing feathers but they sort of look curled. I only want the two Partridge ones.

I'm trying so hard to hold out on several boys going to freezer camp. Next weekend, we are having friends over that want to learn to process birds. I'll have at least 2 extra hands. I figure I can get at least 5 gone and they will get hands on learning.

I don't know where you are but I have either a breese and a something or 4 Serema chicks that hatched Wednesday. The s have been fragile to raise however I'd be a wee bit worried about a long car ride unless you really babied them.

Maybe Deb has some. She is close to Sacramento.

boys, girls or pair? About 5 weeks.

They are difficult, I sold a "most likely pullet" which turned out to be a boy. I also bought a three month old pullet, which turned out to be a boy. They are not an easy breed to sex. Good luck.

Quote: Same here, unless I get a broody.

My last hatch was a few weeks ago and I'm greedily hanging on to them, crele orpingtons!

DH has been trying to convince me to put a (literally) two gallon bucket full of eggs into the incubator. We just moved 98 chicks out of the brooders and into the first stage indoor pen. Most of them are big enough they could be thrown in with their parents.

NO CHICKS!!!
