California - Northern

Heys guys !
How is it going ?
My DH is down in NorCal (Lake County) right now fixing a waterheater in our Rental place there, and he will be coming back up Monday (I think) and I am looking for 6 fertile hatching eggs from Rose Comb Light Brown Leghorns.
If you know of anyone, and hopefully DH can meet up or even have the eggs shipped, please PM me !
Thanks !

Those Polish are cool little dudes, very mod. We had a bantam Polish barred rock barnyard mix when I was a kid - most memorable. Such a friendly little barred girl, and no trouble seeing, as her crest wasn't very large.

So glad you were able to save the d'Anvers. I'm always rooting for the underdogs and choosing the runts because they need a chance. My Welsummer was in the expected-to-die brooder at the feed store, but I took her anyway (was the last one!). She was so tiny. Turns out she had an umbilical hernia and needed a lot of TLC for about a week, but seems ok now.

Enjoy your new babies! Is there going to be room on the roost, or is it time to build a new coop? Chicken math is tenacious!

Take care,
Lynda

Trying to catch up here..............

Meg.....until your family gets you a birthday cake with chickens on it, you are not a crazy chicken lady. But I am!

Whoever asked about Delawares, they are not heat tolerant from what I understand.

I'm getting really bad with off topic posts, but look what's going on behind my property today:

That tiny white dot in the smoke, above the flames, is a helicopter, about to drop water. The fire started about a block away at the base of the hills. My husband is one of the firefighters. They are doing a great job keeping it in the wild areas away from the homes in the valley.

Kim
Good luck with the fire! I hope they get it out soon. We just had with the Robbers Fire by us.

LOL I'll remember that one

I just bought a Brinsea Ecoglow 50 brooder on BYC for a reeeeallly good price! Woohoo! I'm getting ready for the chicks hatching the 29th. Ordered a thermometer/hygrometer, leg bands to keep track of their growth and a brooder so far. Um, this is gettin' kinda expensive! Now I need to get some shelf liner stuff for the floor. That should be pretty inexpensive though.

I've read it's really beneficial to put apple cider vinegar in the chickens water (4 tbsp. per gallon). I've seen Bragg's Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar mentioned a few times. What kind do you guys use? And is this ok to add to their water each time I change it?

Yawn.. it's too early!
