Thanks! I can't wait to see how dark of an egg she lays tomorrow.

Bad chickens hiding their eggs! Did the crash help you find them?

Nice Ron!! Do the eggs get darker the more they lay? I thought it was the opposite for some reason.

Egg Score!! At least you know where she's leaving them now. My chickens won't lay in their nesting boxes at all lately. I made it so they can't get into the garage anymore (they loved to hang out in there for some reason) because I kept finding random eggs everywhere. On shelves, inside boxes.... it was crazy. I keep getting worried that there are more hiding in there somewhere, and I won't find them until they go bad.

The Penedesencas have been laying for a couple of weeks. They usually settle in for egg color and pattern after a while. The eggs will get bigger too.

Some claim that Penedesencas hold the dark color longer. I have not had them long enough to determine that..

Thats a good 15-20 feet down and 20 feet or so in. About 1/2 way down our hill. Goodbye fence, goodbye stairs, goodbye lettuce garden... The guys who were towing it out were attaching the chains and I said " goodbye broccoli" he thought he was stepping on one and I said no, it the car. Heo looked down and was " oh yeah!" There was smashed broccoli everywere. If it was going to happen anywhere on our street, this was the best place. The police said they are unlikely to be able to charge anyone since they can't prove who was driving. They ran away and left the car on our hill.
Odd question... Would insurance reimburse you for your crops? LOL.

Ok, I'm getting some of those now too! I think this emoticon best describes how my husband will feel:

First of the French Black Copper Maran eggs!

I am moving to Anderson next month and the legal limit for the number of chickens we can have is 10, here in Redding it's only 6(but I have 7 - I know, I know, I'm such a rebel). Obviously this means we are getting more chickens when we move! My mom has always loved these very, very dark brown eggs. I think they're pretty cool, too. Where did you get the birds that lay these dark eggs? I know my mom would love to have a hen that lays eggs like this.
