I am up to 59 chicks hatched from what I originally planned as a small test hatch. Might get up to 61 or 62. There are 3 eggs left that have pipped during the night. I will try to post some pics later:)

And I am sooooo happy it's finally raining!

I was talking to mario about my blue silkie egg laying project and he just looked at me and said
"Isn't that like having a hybred sportscar? What does it matter how good the gas milage is if it's sits in the garage all the time?"

He is not impressed with the production of the silkies.....

Would love to see them! Would it be hard to keep the blue gene after the cross backs? I'm thinking of the oe projects start losing the blue gene. Would love to see a silkie blue layer!

Me too! Though this isn't really rain, more like heavy misting. And I left my hooded jacket at work yesterday, so I hope it doesn't start coming down hard until I get there. After that, I hope it rains hard and lots for days--I've not been up there, but I've heard that the Smith is as low as it usually is in August

Just hoping we get a dry spell long enough for me to at least make the cuts for my quarantine pen--I can do the assembling in the garage if I have to (well, not the full assembly, since I'll be setting up outside, but I can get the panels made).

I came home from the farm yesterday with 2 full cartons of fertile farm mix eggs. Not sure what I'm going to do with the chicks but I have hatching fever!

We had rain! And mist! The ducks are running around poking at the dirt so happy.

If you test for blue egg genes in the boys you should eventually get about 80-90% blue layers. Neither of my project girls are related so we are starting with some diverse genes. I'd expect 3-4 gens to start getting double blue egg genes consistantly. But until you can test for it it's a bit of a crapshoot and you will get the occasional white.

Why does it take fedex 2 days to ship me something from family in Thailand but the usps can't get some LIVE chicks somewhere overnight or even in 2 days? So frustrating :(

It's the storms screwing up planes and mail. I canceled all my egg shipments this week. This is why I only scheduals 3/4 weeks a month. One week of extra eggs let's me catch up and cancel shipments when you know you shouldn't send them.
