California - Northern

Hello...all you lucky people up North who are getting some form of precipitation. Can you please share??? I'm tired of watering my fruit and citrus trees. I shouldn't have to be doing so much of that this time if year. SHEESH!

Meet my new 10 month old LF black Langshan trio that I purchased from Sherry Parker! I'm so excited to add them to my breeding program! They have wonderful tail spreads and a gorgeous beetle green sheen to their feathers! Sherry got her stock from Joe Oakley and from James Smith who is the AZ breeder that I wanted birds from!

Monet loves naming our birds. The cockerel is Shang and the two pullets are Mulan and Lucy Lu.

Would love to see them! Would it be hard to keep the blue gene after the cross backs? I'm thinking of the oe projects start losing the blue gene. Would love to see a silkie blue layer!
congrats!
I hope it rains here.mostly sunny right now

We had rain! And mist! The ducks are running around poking at the dirt so happy.

If you test for blue egg genes in the boys you should eventually get about 80-90% blue layers. Neither of my project girls are related so we are starting with some diverse genes. I'd expect 3-4 gens to start getting double blue egg genes consistantly. But until you can test for it it's a bit of a crapshoot and you will get the occasional white.

Why does it take fedex 2 days to ship me something from family in Thailand but the usps can't get some LIVE chicks somewhere overnight or even in 2 days? So frustrating :(

It's the storms screwing up planes and mail. I canceled all my egg shipments this week. This is why I only scheduals 3/4 weeks a month. One week of extra eggs let's me catch up and cancel shipments when you know you shouldn't send them.

I do kind of the same thing of limiting orders incase there are problems. I like to only offer one egg order per week. When the girls are really laying, I could probably sell more than 2-3 orders per week. But, limiting orders helps so I don't " overbook". That way I have extra eggs to re-ship or ship an additional order if needed. Anything could happen. I've dropped whole cartons of eggs, customers suddenly request different ship dates and of course there's always the weather. I try to keep it simple, but I still get headaches dealing with customers. Who wants what when where and then worse....oops the eggs missed the truck or got put on the wrong plane. Just getting hatching eggs to customers on time and in good condition can be challenging. Shipping live chicks would be way too stressful for me, LOL.

In between hatches so listed 4 Isabel cuckoo orpington eggs on eBay. Curious what they will go for. Seems not a lot of ppl know about them. Maybe because only one pair has been sold in the US. Anyhow. Exciting
