Was wondering what the grain process is for Bresse for finishing. Can anyone give me input on that?
I have 1 extra rooster and thought I'd try him out. He's the smaller one and needs more meat on him

Use any grain you want!

I used organic Kamut that came from Azure Standard.

It is an ancient wheat type of grain. Spelt should work well too.

I met just a few people at the show including a guy I went to college with who now raises/ shows chickens ( well I think they were chickens...seramas :hide ) I sent him home with 36 Barnevelder eggs:) Met a nice couple with their grandson visiting from out of the area ( lake county?). I had my DH bring two 8 week old barnie pullets down to the show for their grandson. Had a nice talk with Walt and a few others too :)

I saw a couple of nice birds at the red bluff show with about 3 of them making me wish I could raise more breeds. The bantams and call ducks were adorable, but hawk bait in my area:( I forgot my crappy camera, so I just took a few pics of my birds with my crappier cell phone, LOL.

Yes, Seramas are chickens--very little chickens.

I was kidding:) but they are sooooo tiny, LOL.

I witnessed something weird this morning in the chicken yard. My younger Australorp hen jumped on (an fully mated with) one of my other hens. I've heard of dominate hens crowing sometimes, but never this. Is this normal dominate behavior or....? She lays eggs, and I'm 100% sure she's not a rooster. I'm a little freaked out by it.

I would guess it's a dominance thing, establishing/maintaining pecking order.
We had 2 female yellow labrador dogs & the older one was always mounting the younger one.
The older one wouldn't mount anyone else's dogs, though.

I just witness the same thing in my coop yesterday afternoon between 2 banty hens.

My daughter claimed they are "planking" . I find it funny that they can go to sleep at the drop of a hat.

One of my first marans hen was named plank!
The guy at the feed store said to mix it in a gallon pitcher and store the extra in the fridge.  Not sure about that (the package says mix daily) but I wouldnt think it could hurt. Wouldn't  be any worse than not doing it 1 in 4 days or so. (Also not sure if fridge water might not be too cold) Any other advice

The guy said that the trouble with medicating birds through drinking is that they drink so little. Chicks in the brooder though should be warm and thirsty more frequently.

I wouldnt do it. I read an interesting artical on metabolism and probiotics in chickens that was full of borning stuff too. My takeaway was dont feed chick vitamins to adults and when they say it lasts 24 hrs.. they mean it.

Or anyone else with Bresse.

The egg farmer had a Predator and of course the pretty white AM Bresse Roosters are gone now.

He will replace one, mostly because he wants me to hatch eggs from them!

I am looking for a Rooster or Cockerel of Breeding age. He will travel to pick one up.

Send me a PM if you can help.

Thanks!

I sent you a pm yell if you want pics of winner winner (chicken dinner)

Milk soak grains and kept in a small dark crate. The crate area im not sure about replicating.
