Ron, The friend with the farm where my breeding birds are has decided that she doesn't like the Bresse. She doesn't like the birds and her husband doesn't like how they taste. I am probably going to be getting rid of almost all of my stock.

I understand why your friend is moving away from Bresse. Pita Pintas and Langshan have persuaded them I bet.

Pita Pintas taste so good, they grow fast the skin is perfect for roasting.

If you think chicks are scary when they sleep-don't get quail! They freaked us out so many times, they looked 150% dead!

I know I will, too! I am so in love with my babies. One of them, however, has figured out that she can jump onto the feeder, then onto the edge of the brooder! She's only done it once and jumped right back in, however I'm afraid she'll jump out during the middle of the night and get too cold.

I witnessed something weird this morning in the chicken yard. My younger Australorp hen jumped on (an fully mated with) one of my other hens. I've heard of dominate hens crowing sometimes, but never this. Is this normal dominate behavior or....? She lays eggs, and I'm 100% sure she's not a rooster. I'm a little freaked out by it.

I got some two year old hens from my friend in carmichael who can't have roosters. One of the hens, a silver laced wyandotte, is a man. She doesn't crow, but, she sort of mates with the other hens. Not full on mating, but just short of vent contact.... LOL. She also gets into scuffs with one of my roosters... she raises her hackles and tries to spur him.
