California - Northern

I'm sorry I couldn't make it Trisha, would have liked to meet you in person!  How did your birds do?  Did you condition them before the show?

We had the only barnies. I got BB cockerel, RB pullet in the open show. Kids got 1st pullet, 2nd cockerel in the youth. But my son's cockerel also got Res. Continental youth. Not sure on how many youth birds were in that class.

I didn't condition, but cleaned them up as best I could. They are " breeding birds" not really show birds. My son's cockerel was conditioned more as we kept him in a cage by himself on clean shavings for a few weeks. Didn't want him to get beat up by my older males.

Or anyone else with Bresse.

The egg farmer had a Predator and of course the pretty white AM Bresse Roosters are gone now.

He will replace one, mostly because he wants me to hatch eggs from them!

I am looking for a Rooster or Cockerel of Breeding age. He will travel to pick one up.

Send me a PM if you can help.

Thanks!
Ron, The friend with the farm where my breeding birds are has decided that she doesn't like the Bresse. She doesn't like the birds and her husband doesn't like how they taste. I am probably going to be getting rid of almost all of my stock.

Ack! I should give you a yell I thought I missed my oppurtunity on the extra girl.

That is sad. I do notice they do better when cooked not roasted. The skin just does not do roasting well its kinda thick. Since skinning is easier I just started sous videing most of them.

I wouldnt do it. I read an interesting artical on metabolism and probiotics in chickens that was full of borning stuff too. My takeaway was dont feed chick vitamins to adults and when they say it lasts 24 hrs.. they mean it.

Thanks for that I havent done anything yet. Im also glad I havent. One of the new BO chicks seemed like she was panting from time to time. And I read a bunch of things about the causes. She didnt exhibit any sign of being sick though and someone mentioned the electrolytes. I was planning on adding them so I got some.(And the probiotics)

Last night however I was reading about other birds (Diamond Doves) and I ran across something interesting. The person there said that birds hyperventilate and can develop runny stool when they are stressed. As the BO is now not panting any more and has adjusted to their new environment, I'm pretty sure that was it. I was envisioning rather dire issues but things seem to add up to just environmental stress. Things have calmed down and they appear to be doing fine.

I also think that while I may add the vitamins etc to the water I will divide the packet appropriately.

You take great pictures too! I was supposed to meet there with someone to get @Chic CAN 's English Orph pullets but was having messaging issues on my phone. She ended up being sick and didn't come, but was fine with me picking them up at her house....they she texted that one of the 2 pullets looked like it got stepped on and was not doing well so she didn't want to sell that one. I was only able to pick up one, but she looks good. I will meet up with Chic CAN on the 10th for delivery!

Thank you very much!
You have a little pullet and you haven't posted pictures of her? C'mon now... :) I want to see!

Oh! I completely forgot...I sent pics to Chic CAN but forgot to post them here..
