California - Northern

Good idea!
There is and old one available online for about 10 bucks that has fablous black and white pictures. It won't have breeds after 1910 but all the classics are there. Its a good starting point. quote name="BCollie" url="/t/25/california-northern/55110#post_14020429"]Hi guys! I haven't posted in quite a while...I've started college so I've been pretty busy. But I am absolutely loving it. I'm having the time of my life, and today I'm joining a club - the WHADT club(Welcoming Hearing and Deaf Together) so that I can meet some deaf people and start putting what I've learned in my ASL class to use. I'm really excited, I am fascinated by everything deaf. Their language, culture, people, etc. PREPARE FOR PICTURE SPAM. :p This is the Olive Egger that some of you wanted to see pictures of as she got older. I got REALLY lucky - I was given just one olive colored egg, and it ended up hatching AND turned out to be a girl! She is gorgeous, I love her beard. And remember that Black Copper Marans that NOBODY could agree on the gender of? Well, today it's gender has been proven...because she squatted for me when I went to pick her up! We call her our $30 chick because we bought two "girls" for $15 each and one ended up being a boy, so we gave it away. Here she is...she's so pretty. I normally don't like black chickens but I think she's very cute. AND, one question from me today...what would cause a chicken to not have missing feathers grow in for several months? When I got my lovely Frizzle Tolbunt Polish she was missing feathers on her neck, head, and back. You can see they had started growing back in but they stopped growing after she came to live with me. It was only a couple months ago that they finally grew back in - could it be the stress of moving to a new house that caused her feathers to stop growing? She looks as cute as a frizzle can, now!! Oh, and what chicken photoshoot would be complete without a behind-the-scenes picture? [/quote] Yay! Glad college is going well. I have a deaf cousin who is going to uc santa cruze who gave a speach on being deaf in school last quarter. Its been a great experience for her!

I love seeing your pictures! Great looking birds and so happy you ended up with pullets!
19 of 19 eggs went into lockdown this morning. 10 chocolate orps, 9 silkie/sizzles.
I had one egg peep at me! Maybe I was a little late?
It's going to be a long weekend waiting on them to pip.....

BTW---I have a trio of 15 week olds from my Rock Island grocery store eggs for sale. I was thinking of asking $25 for all 3. Does that seem like a fair price to everyone? Also...what do you think od what breed they are California Whites? White Leghorn? Hybrid? They hatched from brown eggs.

I'm guessing this is my "home" thread (at least for those of us who *do* consider the Bay Area part of the Northern California). Looking forward to “meeting” you all (or maybe even actually meeting you at a coop tour or something).

I don't have them yet. Just ordered the coop yesterday, should have it by early November. Baby steps. Still debating if I want a mix of Orpingtons, or if I want all one color/type. Leaning toward BBS or Blue Cuckoo (or a mix of the two). Ok, what I REALLY want are Silver Laced, but I'm not brave enough to start out my flock with chickens that are that rare and that expensive.
