I am in Alameda for work most week days so maybe we can meet someday on my way home after you get yours.I'm guessing this is my "home" thread (at least for those of us who *do* consider the Bay Area part of the Northern California). Looking forward to “meeting” you all (or maybe even actually meeting you at a coop tour or something).

Are you thinking of raising chicks out of getting them well started?
Welcome to the group! Alameda is definitely Northern California!I'm guessing this is my "home" thread (at least for those of us who *do* consider the Bay Area part of the Northern California). Looking forward to “meeting” you all (or maybe even actually meeting you at a coop tour or something).
BCollie, those are FANTASTIC chicken pics!
No feedback on these and the price?
The prices are very reasonable. No feedback on these and the price?
At this point you wouldn't need a coop for a number of weeks yet. 8 at least. Depending on how many you want a large box would suffice to start as a brooder. If you get them from a breeder you are likely to have the roo problem but ordering them online from a hatchery then you are likely to get what you want.I'm in Alameda daily (I take the ferry to work). I live 5 minutes off the island, right up High.
I'm planning on starting with chicks, yes. Which means I'll likely end up with a few roos that need rehoming.
Roos are illegal in Oakland, but that doesn't seem to have stopped any of my neighbors from having them (at LEAST four houses on my block have them from what I can hear every morning), so if I get a particularly nice roo, I may try and keep him and hatch some chicks on occasion. I'd love to mess around with BBS and Blue Cuckoos.
Sorely tempted but dont have the space (plus no roos) for the eggs.No feedback on these and the price?

Where do you plan to get the chicks from?
