Great point Ron.
The only person That I have gotten eggs from that are like mine(other than people here) was from the person that sells eggs at the Woodland Farmers Market. There are a couple of vendors at the Davis market that sell "farm Fresh" eggs that taste like store eggs. I could live with the ones from the Woodland market but two years ago she was selling the eggs for $4.00 per dozen. I have not checked but I bet she sells them for more now.

Amy Beth, your Chicken and Duck eggs will sell themselves! Those Duck eggs were amazing!

Chard also grows from the base of the plant when the stalks are cut off. I call it the plant that keeps on giving! We had 5 stalks keeping us in Chard from Sprint to Fall one year.

It is also very good for the chickens to eat.
That's good to know! I think that I better add chard to my list for the garden!

At our grower's market we have someone who sells "grocery store" eggs. The girls are fed layer pellet only and they have the typical pale yellow yolks. The only real difference is he shell color. He has comets, stars, sex-links. They are day ranged, with is much better than battery birds anyway.

Watching TV the other morning and they were saying duck eggs are the in-thing this year. I may get some ducks this year. Since DH would like me to go back to work not sure how that will work out. I love to spoil babies, would be so hard to leave them all day.

My chickens like chard. I did not try kale. Chard grows well in the back where most things will not. And it is beautiful. Pity I don't like it.
I remember spinach being on some don't feed lists. I assume like garlic it can be overdone easily. Iron mebby?
My girls were inside most of last week while I accustomed them to the new coop. They ate almost twice as much. Viva free ranging!

Now to plant more grass so they can keep doing it.

Territorial seed company sells a chicken pasture seed blend. Don't think it would do much under my trees though.

Or maybe it was Peaceful valley that had the pasture mix.

Ok we def got a leghorn egg today.

The middle tiny one? Warm out of a nest the LHs jumped out of. Our only bantam Wyandotte also hopped off a nest holding a tiny beige-y one. She didn't lay 2 eggs in a day. Altho oddly the LH egg looks not very white in the image. The 2 on either side of the middle white are both from our lone bantam wyandotte. The big egg is from one of my Pekin ducks a d the the tan one is an Orpington egg.
