California - Northern

I recently sold everything that wasn't suitable for breeding, except one Dorking rooster, who is a friend's pet. (Anybody want a friendly, pet Dork roo?) So I have 5 Dorking roosters and 14 Dorking hens; 4 Delaware hens, 1 Delaware rooster, 1 Delaware cockerel & 1 Delaware pullet. 26 total chickens.
I also have 50 eggs sitting here, ready to be delivered to Ron today.

Reading the Marans threads way back, it sounds like that cross was done with disastrous results. Carnation combs are a dq in show Marans, and I suspect the Pene influence takes the shine out of the egg color causing a flat "paint" job

Oh, yeah, it would not work for what I'm thinking of either, those eggs are worse to hatch! Like burining the piano becuse it was out of tune to get to the strings. Sorry copper didnt mean to make you cry...

Also, I'm not counting babies.. EVER. All those Marans roos coming up waiting for 20 weeks its a little army of potential crowing. There has got to be.. ok I'm not counting...

But in other news I have

2 Cream legbars (pair)
6 FCB Marans hens ( 2 cottage Hill, 3 local from sandhill but about 12 genreations ago from a local breeder 1 Wade Jean hen, and one CL special from eggs)
2 FCBM roos
5 Bresse ( 1 boy 4 girls)
2 oe's (pair)
5 laying hens ( ee autralorp orphies) (those ee eggs are hatching fiends however, so I'm making ee/legbar crosses now )
some amount of extra older roos waiting for a lazy week.
mebby 20 silkies?? They lay so badly you need numbers. Plus a few are just for broodies, and a few are babies, and a few are not POL ( ok a LOT are not POL..)

But silkies don't count do they?
OH! and 2 icelandic pullets, but they are wild chickens that don't hang about they don't count either do they?

So probaly under 50 if you dont count babies..or turkeys... or.. nvm...

oh this can be a fun day....

how about everyone count off their chickens!!

I proudly ONLY have 35 laying hens + 4 lavender marans juveniles + 21 chicks + 24 eggs in incubator... under one hundred!

Omg, you guys are too funny.

My list isn't too bad...

1 silkie
1 polish frizzle
1 Swedish flower hen
1 French black copper Marans
1 new Hampshire red
1 brown leghorn
1 Easter egger
1 barred rock
1 golden laced Wyandotte

All pullets except the FCBM roo.
I have a "collection" and love them all!

Lets see what do I have?

Ducks:
2 welsh harlequin
2 golden 300s
3 Pekin
3 buff
4 runners (various colors)
7 silver appleyards
(6 more silver appleyards in spring)

Chickens:
1 FBCM roo
7 Buff Orp (1 is roo)
1 English orp x FBCM hen
1 bantam BLRW pair
2 white Leghorn
2 EE

Pet Chickens:
7 sizzle/frizzle/silkie chicks
1 sizzle pullet
1 sizzle roo
1 showgirl roo

13 chicks from my own chickens- barnyard mixes and a few pure Buff Orps

2 geese- brown African pair

Anyone want a couple boy ducks? I have to rehome 2. One is a Buff drake and one is a crested fawn and white runner. Both sweet and tame.

It's so fun seeing what everyone has! We are just starting our flock, so not sure what we'll end up with when all is said and done. We bought four little EEs from the feed store yesterday and have an order of 25 coming on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. 15 Brown Layer assortment and 2 Austrolorps, 2 Columbian Wyandottes, 2 Buff Orpington Hens and 1 Roo, 1 Partridge Cochin hen and 1 Roo and 1 RIR hen. We also want a few Silkies. I have a question, those of you that have ducks, what do you keep them for?

Here are the EEs!

Buffle, the leader. I love his/her puffy cheeks.

Tiny, my daughter's favorite. She named her.

Novalee, the pretty one

Huckle, the lovable homely one

Hi fellow Nor-Cal-ers (is that a word)?,

There are so many cute chickens on this page!

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have been to the small animal swap in Anderson; I am looking to find a new roo and was wondering if anyone knows whether it would be possible to find one there.

Cheers,

Christina

Welcome!

I do know there is going to be a poultry show there later this spring. (don't know the exact date) It would be a fantastic place to find a rooster, as LOTS of breeders will be there.
