How are the baby goats doing Molly? Dangit, I can't stop thinking about them!

And all the duckling people have me thinking about ducks too.

Tried turkeys - they are too high maintenance. (meaning dumb as a box of rocks) They will NOT go in to roost at night! But I still miss them, super sweet and would follow you anywhere.

Get ducklings!! Watching them jet around the bathtub under the water is just about the cutest thing ever. They're so sweet (and, okay, stinky) and they look at you sideways with such an intelligent look in their eyes. We adore them.

Heard from the vet today. Wash, our cat, does not have heart worms but is severely anemic which points to feline AIDS or Leukemia, apparently. So they're testing for that. There's a chance it could be something else.

It took a couple weeks of training but the ducks put themselves to bed at night. They love routine and will stick to it if you are consistent. Even if we didn't have the pond we'd still have some ducks. Love them. They seem pretty smart- they lay lots of eggs. Geese are super smart and lay fewer eggs. I would love more of them.

With training yes they do. If you are willing to put in the time ducks will learn routines and they flourish under them. Training isn't hard, it requires consistence and patience. Once done- you're golden though. Ours come up to the coop at bedtime because we give them feed mixed heavily with oats around lunchtime. But at night they get more substantial feed and they want it. Want it bad. haha! Then it's dark when they are done and they go to bed. They are not as easy to put to bed as chickens in that you have to train them a while, but I only know people that have trained theirs and go to bed. I've never met anyone who doesn't do this unless their ducks are completely predator proof enclosures day and night.

If you scoot their routine around and retrain them you can. Takes time and patience but its worth it.

Not a lot of foraging opportunities there, LOL. It's nice to see your net is holding though. I shuddered to think how much snow my son had yesterday (3400 ft). He said he needed to shovel around a foot when he got home from work (after borrowing my 4WD).

Jason, I'm getting ready to set some eggs today or tomorrow (got my first Isbar and hopefully another today!). I could probably find room for your's, at least most of them.

I am going to give the ones that hatched today away. I can have my wife meet you and take the other chick. I dont want to just raise a few I really need more than 2 at a time lol so hopefully these would hatch. the 2 that hatched where a crele and partridge pene. I have a friend that will take the one you hatched too. I am hoping for at least 10.

Chiquita!

I found 2 lightly tinted first eggs in the pen that has the Bresse, Dorking RIR and the two Olive eggers! Either the Olive Eggers are laying brown eggs(doubtful), I missed an egg yesterday(likely) or the Bresse layed and egg(unlikely)!

I gave me a start of excitement to see them in there though. I to have free choice calcium in there and am feeding them King feed Natural.

And Kim, Mimi my SG Dorking layed a much larger white egg today!

I was going to post without a picture but figured that someone would want to see them.

Mimi is on the left. The other three are pullet eggs from today. They do not look like Olive Eggers. I do not know about Bresse. One of them is from the layer yard.

The Weather Service did not admit that California had Tornadoes until recently. When I lived in Corning(moved in 1992 to Woodland), There was a Tornado in between Vina and the Sacramento River. It ripped off an awning and damaged the roof on a Mobile home. It was not an official tornado because they did not believe one could be there. Vina had a Tornado yesterday, 30 miles north of Chico...

There was also one way back in the late 80s at the Chico Airport that ripped planes from the chains they use to tie them down. Still not called called aTornado...

The advent of portable cameras changed that--it is hard to say there was no Tornado when the video clearly shows a funnel cloud touching down!

I remember a few in the 80's in Sacramento / Roseville. damaged a lumber jack in Roseville

Hi all,
Just started checking this thread again, great to see so many posts. Our chickens had a bad year. We lost many to a group of stray dogs that had to be tracked down and caught. A friend just gave us four EE chicks to add to our now small flock of BO, WCBP, and 2 EEs. Starting over is hard. I don't have any broodies to do the hard work for me. My two boys are enjoying it though.
