I got 16 eggs today from an unspoken number of pullets/hens!

I had no eggs for 2 1/2 months and now I am over run with them. My egg skelter from Cheryl is filled. A wire basket is filled. A red metal basket is filled. The 16 from today are sitting on the counter. And there are 2 full cartons in the refrigerator that DH forgot to take with him to Santa Cruz. I also sold 2 dozen to friends at the dog park. I'm not complaining, really, but I am looking for more egg rich recipes!

PS A big thank you to Cheryl for my beautiful egg skelter! I love getting early birthday presents! My DH told me today that if I really want an incubator for my birthday, to go ahead and order it!

my gosh, what a lot of fabulous stories today -- and just wishing my silly SPPR had actually gone broody, but nooooo, she's back to pecking around as usual.

but here's my question of the day: can laying hens get too much calcium? their feed says it has oyster shell in it, but several of them have had quite pale combs for a while, and i wondered if they weren't getting enough calcium now that they've started laying for the first time... so i bought them some oyster shell today, which they are greedily pecking at, and i wondered, is there such a thing as too much? or will their bodies just process out the excess?

thanks!

Since a lot of people keep roos with the hens and let them eat layer, the calcium is a bit low in a lot of feed. The instructions for the King Feed Natural non soy it says to add free choice calcium for stronger egg shells.

Give them free choice calcium- do not mix it into the feed. They will not eat too much.

Woohoo!!

6 for 6 for the second time this week! My girls hatched on May 14 2012 so this is their first year laying. Red Stars rarely take a day off...I guess between the two of them they may have taken 3 and they lay beautiful big red brown eggs, my Australorps are almost as consistent and their eggs are golden brown then the Delaware girls...Dottie lays a pretty pinkish beige egg pretty much every day but Della has had trouble working out the kinks she may never be as great a producer as Delawares are supposed to be but she makes up for it with her personality. Her eggs vary in color from dark beige with speckles to shelless :) and in shape, the ones with shells from fingerling potato to golf ball.

I don't understand what possesses people to come on to other people'splaces. When the peacocks loose their feathers we have adults who will stand on the road in front of the house and send their little kids up to run around and pick up the feathers. I don't mind people getting feathers but they DON'T ASK. Isn't it common courtesy?

I am sorry for the loss of your dog. That is never easy. I couldn't tell for sure but was it just recently??

PM me the details, I'm not familiar with "editing".

If the rule says no PS and they mean no Photo Shop, then the rules need to be fixed. Photo Shop is a program from Adobe. It is not a Generic term for editing. The rules need to be more specific. Digital cameras shoot in RAW format or they pre and post process the image. My point is that nearly all Digital images are processed and optimized in some fashion. When a camera does not pre or post process the image, then it is custom processed by a program like Photoshop.

When I entered the Calendar contest, I changed the canvas size and cropped the frame. Was that Photo Shopping? If I changed the color curve is that Photo shopping? Or to they mean to not combine two images or run filters?

Of course if you had been ready and waiting it would still be backordered! Can you arrange from someone to sign for it? My Brinsea is coming tomorrow and they won't leave it without a signature so my mom is going to be here to sign for it. Usually you can choose to waive the signature but Brinsea won't deliver without it, they must have had problems in the past.

Can someone store the eggs for you or is that too long for quail eggs? Well, at least you have something to look forward to when you return from Disneyland! Maybe hard boil those cute little eggs for a gourmet treat. :idunno

Well I will just have to watch the tracking from here and see when it actually gets delivered. Apparently there was a little delay for Fed Ex because of the storms so I will have to do a wait and see.

I am not certain if GQF has signature required so another we will have to see.

I don't really know all that much about quail eggs but I won't be completely disappointed if I can't teat the incubator on them. I will just get some later.

Like you I can't wait to get it in the mail!!!!!
