Here is a picture of how not to pack eggs. This shipper simply put eggs in carton and put carton in box with newspaper.

These are Brabanter eggs I bought these off Ebay last year. I should have read the feedback before I ordered cuz seller failed miserable. My postman warned me the package stunk when he came to my door so I opened box outsite and this is what I found. These eggs were clearly in this box for a lot longer than the time it took to ship them. The story gets worst, but I will spare you all the details. Bottom line, make sure to read peoples feedback on Ebay before ordering. I should never have ordered from this seller who was clearly a scammer.

Wow! I am so glad we don't have smell-a-vision computers!

I do much more jams than anything else as I have LOTS of fruit on my trees. I haven't crossed over to pressure canning yet. I make more than we can use, but I give some away as gifts too.
How can I get on your Christmas/Easter/Memorial Day/Fourth of July/Labor Day/Halloween/Thanksgiving gift list???

Oh disgusting does not even begin to describe that box! Did you get your money back?

The Horstman eggs are replacement of eggs from last year that were broken receipt. I had a probably false hope that they would be packed better this year.

Chookschicks(Renee) should be great at shipping eggs! What are you getting from her?
Renee is sending me a half dozen hen's choice. I did ask her, if possible, to go heavy on the Part. Chantecler and include a couple of her Konza Prairie Rangers but I like not knowing...really anything she sends will be totally cool with me.

Bethbug has Dorkings and Dorking mixes and she is also sending me a hen's choice mix heavy on the Dorkings if possible with a potential OE or two in the mix

I have spent any extra minutes on the "Shipped Egg Experiment" today cutting and pasting and making a new document. I am so glad I did. Now I know to let the shipped eggs sit outside the incubator for under a day and put them in the bator w/o turning for 5 days. I am sure I read that in the article on hatching shipped eggs but I had forgotten.

What was your hatch rate on the non-broken Horstman eggs last year?

Oh...and do you guys see my mixed breed rooster over on the right? I can't find the post where I asked that originally. He's Buff Black and white and the pic has him standing on a gravel driveway with grass in the background.

Quote: I hope Wisher makes a guide off of the Great Egg Shipping Experiment. She needs get some kind of medal for starting it.

None of the Horstman eggs hatched. I really tried too. That is the hatch were I learned to watch for rotting eggs....I was very sad at the wasted potential of Show Quality chickens in that hatch.

I have posted a picture of part of that shipment but will post it again:

That is one of two cartons like that. Each egg was wrapped in news paper and then the whole box was stuffed with news paper. Not a bit of bubble wrap in the thing. This method may work for truck shipping within 2 day driving from his place but it does not look like they make it when they hit the Airborne Jet...

That is sad...I find it odd too. Why on Earth would someone not take care with fertile eggs? I do hope that he has figured out how to improve the outcome.

you know what is happy? That video I just saw of your hatch from Wisher's x country egg shipment. How are those doing now? Today is their one month birthday right? Pics please! Did that one little one turn out to be blue?

Yes they are a month old! Amy Beth has them so hopefully she will post some pictures for us!

I hatched them to help Wisher learn how to ship. She is learning a bunch too!

Those eggs are nasty, though I've seen worse that a friend received.

Maybe we should work out a trade - you do live in the wine country.

We seriously need to have a meet up closer than the Bay Area this year.

How do you like my wonderful shipped eggs?

These came a year ago from "The" top breeder of Wyandottes! The eggs were wrapped in paper towels and put in a foam insulated box. Problem is that there wasn't any padding between the eggs and they hit against each other and broke. Desperate to try and get some partridge Wyandotte chicks out of these eggs I incubated a couple that weren't broken and one grew but didn't hatch. It had only one eye and a horribly crossed beak!

Good thing it didn't hatch!! Now I know better than to try and incubate eggs that have had stinky, rotten egg yoke all over them!! The breeder did refund me my money.
