California - Northern

There are quite a few BYCrs in the Sacramento area!

Thanks! And awesome

I currently have 1 Mallard duckling, 5 Pekin ducklings, 1 that may be a runner or maybe Cayuga (as a rookie I'm clueless!), 8 Embden goslings that will arrive April 17th from Metzer's, and some Californian rabbits on the way! We also have several fruit trees, a variety of veggies, and even some aquaponics starting sometime soon. We often have an excess of fruit and produce and though we donate loads, we always have loads more. We would love to build some contacts in the area to give some to or trade for their excess :) .

Hi I was wondering if there was anyone from the Sacramento / Yuba/ Sutter area? I'm a new home steader in a new area looking to meet people for trading livestock and or goods and possibly friendship. Thanks a lot. :)
Welcome to the thread! I'm a new homesteader as well, but I'm a bit farther away from most of the people here - Santa Cruz mountains.

I hope the little wonky-legged chick is doing ok.

My injured hen update - when I was treating her this evening I noticed another gash (~1") on the underside of her neck. Blah.

It didn't look great but that is probably because it hadn't been cleaned like the other sites. I decided to give her a 4th injection of antibiotics for margin, any thoughts if that should be sufficient? She didn't lay an egg today but has been wanting to hang out with her buddies. I let her scratch around with them for about 10 min today and she seemed happy to be able to stretch her wings and try to be a regular chicken again. I'd say her energy level is at about 80% compared to the other girls, I think that's pretty good considering that she is on day 4 of recovery.

Phew! In the past 2 weeks I've had to really conquer my fear of blood and needles. Those fluffy butts must be pretty darned cute to motivate me to deal with those issues!

Thanks and it's amazing how they utterly knock you off your feet isn't it? I never even thought I liked birds now I'm head over heels for them!
