Personally I let them be unless they are drawing blood. They have to work out pecking order somehow. Mine figured it out with little bloodshed and now every minds their Ps and Qs. Honestly my worst issue was having roosters being rough with hens. They are permanently penned up until further notice (they were bought as pets which makes offing them off limits).

x 2....................and I don't worry about them drawing a little blood, unless it's too bad.
Zooweemama, Debs-flock, and Chiqitua,
Thank you very much for your replies! Today, I started to feel quite desperate trying to figure out what to do, and decided to ask on the thread. I am glad that I did! I will give it a good try tomorrow morning, and am really hoping that they will settle their differences without seriously hurting each other. Yes, there is plenty of space for the looser to escape to. This was the first time in my life which I have witnessed a rooster fight, and was quite an unpleasant experience. So sad that they can be so vicious towards each other...

I am going to try Bubble wrap pouches for shipping eggs ordered a few hundred 4x7 1/2 3/16 bubble. plus I have tons of larger bubble for around the box

Double boxing seems to help protect the eggs too.

I can work out all of the ratios !!! I have a few extra boys right now that I will be making breeding pens for :) Great news!!! I talked the hubby into buying me a real incubator that I don't have to geek out on all the time! Woohoo!! Now to do the bator shopping!!! I have no idea what to get for quail and an occasional Silkie.
My husband took care of Ruby

...That was his first time. I never have either, I made him wait until I was inside. I think it bothered him a little more than I thought it would bother my Army Ranger combat vet.
I'm hoping for the quail to just be lazy right now.... Chiqita, I didn't candle because I wasn't sure how to candle quail & most of them were shipped.

Of course you'd say that.... you a part of the Chicken Conspiracy. You want chickens to RULE THE WORLD! :lau

Well, depends on who's a Roo and who's not in our flock. I know an Olive Egger is for sure. And i suspect Branwy (the larger of the two blue chicks who has all down still) and one of the EE's. Praying I only have the one OE Roo though cuz I don't know how I'd pick who to give away/sell :barnie

I still hate rehoming roosters...it's sad :(

Hi guys!! I need some positive Coturnix Quail hatching vibes!!!
This has been one hell of a week! My grandma, who passed the crazy chicken lady torch to me, passed away in front of me on the 8th, we have to put poor Ruby down today due to the Marek's thing, I'm losing weight like crazy & I cannot afford it. My mind is just going crazy right now & my quail are on day 18 & no wiggles yet. I have 33 eggs in the DIY bator. Chiqita--- Do you have any advice? Anybody? They are Jumbos. I'm breeding these quail to help my dad with his prostate cancer. I have read a lot about how valuable quail eggs are, health-wise.
Now I'm just rambling.... Anybody hatch quail?? The quail threads are not so helpful :he :barnie .... Maybe I should go refill my estrogen Rx...

So sorry to her about your Grandma, how awful..

Ruby is in a better place. You did all you could <3
Sending a hug your way.

I have Calico Bantams due to hatch 4/24 from Diana at Chooklat. I went to her place and all I can say is WOW! She has a beautiful set up for her chickens. I went there to get Olansk Draft and came home with Calicos also. She is so sweet and generous. Anyway. I need more breeds like I need a hole in my head but what can I say... I am a sucker for bantams and hers were out of this world. I hope to have a good hatch since the eggs were picked up. I will blast you all with pictures so brace yourselves.

I'm braced. Bring it on :) I will upload my new pics of my frizzle cochin bantams tomorrow. Today got away from me :)

Got the rest of the roof cut and installed on my lunch break!

Tiny Chicken Building Inspector says "This is not up to code, lady".
Looks great to me! Not to ding my DH's handy-work but if your coop isn't up to code then I'm in REAL trouble!!!
Oh my gosh....4 eggs are pipping now! And the cheeping is getting louder! This is crazy sauce!

<*hands nice, full glass of Old Vine Zin to SilkieRose*>
