California - Northern

Maybe with the way they are built they can reach the ticks better, the noise gets me more than anything else.
Their diet is more bugs so they will eat more of any insect. They are very wild but they can be tamed if you handle them every day when they are babies, Keets or whatever they are called....They are noisy even as just hatched Keets....

Drawing on all the knowledge out there. I've got 10 EO eggs going into lock down, they are shipped and some have "saddle and a half air cells". Would it be best to let the eggs roll to find the "top" for placing in the cartons, set them with the largest portion of air cell up, hatch upright in cartons?

Nope, no tracking number. They were supposed to ship last Monday. I messaged her, hoping she forgot to send them. They're Calico Cochins! I won them in the 24 hour auction thread :)
I got some from NY and they took 4 days. Shipped Monday and got them at 830am Thursday morning

San Jose, But we go up there for the September wine thing and a few times a year, if it was not so hot id move there!
Change those towles once every day or so, they are poop machines.

I got shipped eggs today PACKED IN PLASTIC EASTER EGGS ( also of course bubble wrap. Too awesome. I now need to see if I can find a wholesale place that can ship me thousands for eleventy cents so I can use them too.

Sadly I did not take a picture. I suck.
I am sad now....We really want pictures of new shipping methods like this for the Great egg shipping experiment thread! We are trying to get breeders that ship to join the thread. It looks like I was able to get Our Fly Babies to change the way they ship! Score! One! for Us!
Think of all the potential baby chicks we have saved!

Draw a line outlining the saddle. Hatch those big end up in an egg carton. Watch those--there is a good chance the chick will pip in the wrong spot. Make a note of when they pip and help them only if it is longer than 24 hours after they pip. Also, watch for amber liquid coming out of the pip. They will drown from the liquid, so if you see it, make sure the beak is free and it can breath.

I hope they all hatch!

I got some from a breeder that packed the eggs in a single layer bubble wrap square not even big enough for the eggs and then put into an egg carton and then in a box w news paper. ??? I don't get it.

oh Ron, they looks so sweet!

They do look sweet...................and our next door neighbor has free ranging guineas................I don't feel bad about our 75+ roosters.

So are turkey eggs harder to hatch than chicken?
I met the lady who bought the BLRW chicks today, she was thrilled they were past the "baby stage" at three weeks. She asked me about Bourbon Red turkeys. She said she would buy all I hatched. Having only hatched a few times not sure what I might be getting myself into.

I hatch them just like (and in with) my chicken eggs. No difference other than the number of days.

Yes Sally sunshines articles are awesome! I always hatch in paper cartons now. They just pop the top off and climb out :) make sure to cut the carton WAY down though because if you don't they can't tip themselves over and will get stuck

Yes, it does not make sense. My Youngest Daughter has a science project this year--protect the egg for an egg drop. They were not allowed to use bubble wrap--it was considered cheating to use it. If used properly it is the best way to protect an egg!

My package from Our Fly Babies had not bubble wrap or even foam nuggets!

Speaking of shipped eggs.... My boss (the postmaster) and I are trying to work out a way to make it better to ship eggs on our end. Right now hatching eggs are shipped like any "regular" package. Live chicks, roosters, and any other poultry are shipped separately, so they tend to be much more protected during shipping. She took a bunch of pictures of my shipped eggs (I had them shipped to my work), and we were thinking of trying to get USPS to ship hatching eggs like they would ship any other live animal. I told her about how tons of people ship hatching eggs, and more people would by or sell them if the results were better.
