Some crosses don't matter, some genes are sex-linked. Such as a genetic red cock over a barred hen will give you red sex link chicks. The other way around does not. Play around with the color calculator.

We had a freaky 95 here! Had to take our charcoal lab down to Carson valley vet for impacted intestine.... Which really
Means she ate a butt load of rocks and cat litter and cost us 450.00. But anyway it was 102 down there:-( have to water twice daily . The water is just evaporating.

I got my order of Mix variety Brahmas as in some will be light some dark and some Buff but I cannot tell which are what. I can of course guess the brownish ones are the buff ones. Its hard to get pictures. I have posted some here before. They move about so fast.

i took a LOT of update photos of my grow-out chicks today -- i won't post them ALL here, but here's a smattering:



queenie, the 11 week old silver duckwing araucana (i didn't end up keeping either of her brothers, who were different colors)


harold, my very sweet (so far) CL cockerel, 10 weeks old -- although i gave his sister away to a friend, she had a larger crest that i prefer, plus was a bit of a meanie -- i'm not totally sure i'll keep harold, but so far he's such a charmer, i might have to!


blue the isbar boy, also 10 weeks -- i have a feeling he's going to be gorgeous



jack the 8-week-old birchen marans boy -- also destined to be rather gorgeous, and has HUGE feet

Beautiful! Love Queenie! The Isbars are amazing and I love that you named one after Molly! Our Olive Eggers from her look a lot like them.

We just gave away one of our roosters last night. Pretty sad.

We found a good home though with one of our co-workers who wanted a rooster for protection. Blue is one of our Blue Isbar x Marans Olive Eggers. He was our least favorite personality wise, although not mean at all but also one of the prettiest boys.

When we first let him out of the dog crate at his new abode he freaked out and banged into the hardware cloth a few times and then looked around for another rooster. Then he noticed the 15 pullets around him and said, "Well hellllloooooo Ladies!". He then proceeded to do the rooster dance for one of them unsuccessfully. A couple minuets after that he was snuggled up on the roost (we dropped him off at dusk) and had so many ladies around him we couldn't even see him.

It's nice that we can go visit him if we miss him and that he's only a few miles away. His new humans said he is doing well so far and promptly crowed at 6am and got all their dogs barking~ LOL

That is one nice looking rooster too! I will have to let one of my guys too too. Its so hard to decide. I have two father and son. They are both nice in their own way. I just don't know. So I know how you feel.

Yeah it SUCKS! We have 9 chickens now. 3 roosters and 6 pullets. There's no way we can get rid of our Ameraucana, he's too pretty and too sweet. We have decided to keep 2 roosters and get some more pullets to help even it out for them.

That leaves Blue's brother the splash Blue Isbar x Marans and the beautiful, feathered beachball of an English Orpington who is blue (although getting in some red under his wing).
The Splash is more active and dominant, but is more human friendly and comes and sits on our laps sometimes, but the Orpington is beautiful and has a good crow.

Hi ya'll,
I live in pilot hill near cool. I was wondering about the chicken/farm animal swap in Roseville. How do I find out about these things? I would love to get some more chickens since I have lost 10 in the last couple of months to predators. Thankfully, we had a trapper come and captured a bobcat, skunk, and hawk that were taking my girls. Anyway, long story short: I would live to get a blue copper Maran or two and a laced wydonette. If any one in the foothills wants to get rid of some chickens.

You definitely need to talk to MissMolly and DebsFlock, I think between the two of them they could repopulate the world with chickens if need be. And they're both amazing!
