Hi guys!
Shark: next year I am am adding more silver to my flock. I somehow ended up with a lot of brown and gold, and Dark Brahmas are on my not so short list. It sounds like you have some lovely babies.
The new babies were free ranging with mommy yesterday as 4 day olds. We have a hedge that all the chickens hang out under and Beakface brought her brood out. I now think I have three girls and a boy based on re-examining their wing feathers as three day olds.
We are doing the rooster shuffle around here when we get Curly's coop built. He will get the new chicks as pals when they turn 6 weeks old. We are moving my uncle's NH boy in with my young coop where he has been hanging out.
Funny story: I had a missing hen last night. My sweet Red Star Boom-Boom was not in the coop at bed time. I looked around but no feathers, we had all been outside so would have heard something if a raccoon or opossum got her. I figured she had wandered away and was too far from the coop at dusk so hopped up on a low branch though she has never done that before.
Well DH and I and our daughters went up to watch some Breaking Bad and I was still pretty fussed. 5 minutes in D2 says "hey dad pause the TV." she got up wen around behind it and came out with Boom-Boom.
My son had left the back door open when he had gone to work. She had walked in the open door and gone up stairs and no one had seen her do it.
This is what comes of encouraging your chickens to come into the house
Taking my son to CSM today for orientation and to schedule classes. He has been planning to attend a dive program in FL but is now looking at costs a little more closely so may be staying closer to home. He would be living with my SIL in Hillsborough. It would be a good thing.
