California - Northern

I had a Boston, who unfortunately killed my whole flock. :( it was my fault I know for leaving him out and my poor chickens paid for it. Hard lesson to learn for sure.

ok, the cuckoo marans Dixie has two chicks out and about (still sitting on three more eggs):

they look like they're sharing secrets already...

and the other broody, Jane the light sussex, has one out and bouncing around (but i couldn't get a photo yet), and at least one more is pipping. both broodies have 5 eggs each, all silver campines from Deb.

more to come, i hope!

I am so so sorry. That must have been horrific. Ours was raised with Peacocks and has come up on the wrong side of things trying to "play" with the big boys. That is probably why he doesn't pay the chickens any attention.

Campines are the next breed up for class on the Chicken State University - large Fowl thread.

Wellies have been very popular and I hope there is just as good of a class on the Campines. I will let you all know when that class starts.

i hadn't heard of CSU! (and felt confused at first, as i work for the CSU, aka CA State University) -- but have signed up!

and in the meantime, here's the other broody Jane with her one very-active-so-far chick, there's another that's partway out of the shell at this point:

Quote: So sweet!

I picked up 4 EE's for my broodies today. My Production Red had a couple of eggs that were developing when I got back from my hike, so I let her keep them. If they are no longer developing, then she will get 2 and the egg crusher Orp will get 2. Otherwise, I'll give them all to the Orp. She had better take them if she knows what is good for her!
