From what I've read (I've been researching the breed for several years now), they lay around 20 eggs per cycle, then take off 4-6 weeks, then lay another 20 eggs for a total of around 3 lay cycles per year.

Truly an "ornamental" breed in the production department, they are also a lightweight game type bird.

If you are looking for a black breed of a higher production and meatier body type, go for a Black Swedish Hen. Equally rare in this country.

And both, black to the bones........as they say.
Yes! That sounds good.

Thanks, the cream is my current roo when he was around six months old, hadn't come into himself yet.

The son I am keeping, has none of the chestnut shading so far.

this is harold a week or two ago:

he's looking a bit more chestnut-y than he did previously, but will be interested to see if it develops much further...?

Well got my first CCL egg today so that's the good news....the bad news is I'm thinking I got 4/6 cockerels of jubilees, Same with the gold laced Orpingtons, And the same with my Partridge Brahmas!! What are the odds of that?! Lol
