I have heard grapefruit spoons are perfect for the lung-scraping task. I just returned from a pre-dawn transport of ten more chickens from here to the new coop at the Ranch. This time I included pullets; the roo/hen ratio is very off balanced and will be for a long while. I think I have two more cockerels and six more pullets to move, but those are all rafter and tree roosting birds, so I will need some assistance in gathering them. I have more than ten hens staying here....with Carl. Guess I didn't realize how many senior gals there really are in the flock. :hide And then I have to plan for the Duck Rodeo, later on down the line. But today, John and I will be putting more "apron" wire down around the run, plus figure just how to cover the run with the netting.

Love it!!!

Personally, I use my fingers, but as Ron said I've heard a melon baller will work. But as Linda said, my suggestion was going to be a grapefruit spoon since they are serrated at the tip. If you bent the spoon's handle, it would make it the correct angle.

I saw that someone recommended a serrated melon baller. Some of them are almost as expensive as the lung scrapers. I wonder if the dollar store would have either grapefruit spoons or serrated melon ballers? Maybe I'll check out Ross and Homegoods. I don't want to spend too much money just to try it.

Have fun working today! We are off to our homeshool co-op. I teach 2 drama classes this afternoon and the subject for the day is Why?, When? and Where? 3 good questions!!!

I'm going to look for some inexpensive ones to play with! I am hoping that the Bresse will be easier to process than the 1 1/2 yr old roos were!

Nice work on the move! So the ducks are being relocated as well?

You can come help me then Ron. I went shopping for fabric on Friday to reupholster my dining room chairs. There were some really nice striped fabric, but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get the stripes straight. I brought home some swatches to contemplate.
