Also ! I have a silkie that has more then normal gender confusion. Moppet survived the Fox attack. He has never crowed or mated and used to try and sleep under hens.

Now he has decided he is a mother! He has been trying to ninja chicks from My 3 broodies. He moved down to the broodies level of the coop and is cooing to the babies and convinced a few to sleep under him. Tonight he was coming to imaginary babies and got very upset when I moved him till I borrowed 2 real chicks to slip under him.

I wonder if I gave him eggs if he will sit?
So cute!

Ok, just used Valbazen on one flock. Had a hard time seeing the line of the dropper. Any easier way than a dropper? That in itself took forever.
THEN, I read on another thread, one opinion says to Not Use Valbazen first! That you should use Wazine first to not overload. Is that correct? A little late now for one flock, but tomorrow is the other’s turn. Didn't even think of that before
It is only a problem if they have a very bad infestation of worms. I doubt yours do so they should be fine.

Thanks Ron, I just edited my last post to say these i think have a bad infestation. Not long ago their sister had lots of roundworms, so now i'm doing them all. So maybe I should do the wazine you think?

Considering the recent snowfall and subsequent icy roads, if I had waited just one more day before trying to drive anywhere, I MIGHT have not totaled my ride. However, as of yesterday, the ice on the road to Thistle Dew Ranch still had long stretches of ice requiring snow tires and/or 4-wheel drive. Another friend - who drives a 4-wheel drive pick-up - has been giving me rides to The Ranch every 2 or 3 days. I have learned I picked a popular icy spot spot for vehicular rollovers. "We" also think I may have suffered a mild concussion in my accident. Untreated, of course.... I wish I could make an MP4 or .wav file of the voice mail message I left for HHandbasket immediately after the accident, asking her to please pick up some feed for my flock(s), Not sure it would have been understandable past the first sentence, though. She said she got the extremely calm "I totaled the Quest but I'm okay - I rolled it on my way to Mt. Aukum (General Store)" The next bit she could suss out through hysterical sobbing was "...so my (expletive deleted) chickens won't starve." I don't think I have ever labeled any of my poultry - individually OR collectively- with that particular Anglo Saxon adjective. Even with the past two days of near-60 temps, there is unmelted snow and ice in a few places on my home property and quite a lot of it at the Ranch. Angus the gander came running at Treat Time and took a corner on some ice. Whoa! I laughed so much at him when he lost his footing and slid on his belly a few feet before he recovered. When he got back up onto his feet, he honked once with indignation. At least that's what I imagined. I dislike being beholden to others for transportation,

Aww! :) Boys can be Mommies too!

Where do I get peanuts?

Hi there, a little late to the question, but other than raising chickens for awhile I was blowing glass and shipping lots of fragile stuff. Best value I could find for packing peanuts was Uline. Even with the shipping cost on the UPS-able bag, it was cheaper than pickup for the biggest local packaging supply company. Nothing beats free, but if you have to pay that's the place to buy.

sorry Linda,
I hope you feel better. I can probably help you out some this weekend or next week if you need it.
I am finishing my black penedesenca run and working on a website but am off next week.

I am calling in sick today because my wife got a bad pinched nerve opening the chickens yesterday so I need to take her to Kaiser.

**The flock I do tomorrow is 2 years old and NEVER been wormed before. With the exception of 1, who a few months ago had a load of roundworms. So I'm guessing the same with the rest.
I never pre treated with Wazine. I think it's just an extra precaution in case the infestation is severe. I wouldn't worry about the Wazine now.

As for dosing them, use a medicine syringe, not a dropper.

Thank you Happy Chooks. I only did half my birds because it was so time consuming to find the 1/2cc mark with a flash light. I will try the medicine syringe. That actually sounds perfect, especially if i get all the doses ready in the house first.
The only thing that made me worry was the other half i haven’t done yet. I think they have alot of worms going on. In 2 years, they’ve never been wormed, but I know they have them. But it kind of looks like no one really pre treats with wazine before Valbazen.
It sounds like Valbazen is a bit safer than Ivermectin. Does anyone know about that?
