My mom is almost 85, She doesn't really show her age but on Christmas she promised to buy me "what I really wanted" for my b-day 12-22 and Christmas. I told her I would think about it and last week I told her I had decided on the Genesis so many of you have had success with. I told her I would shop them and we decided to order it today when she came by for her weekly visit. We spent about 10 minutes talking about how maybe my spraddle legged chicks would have done better not in the LG. So today we had our weekly visit and she never mentioned it even though we talked about gift buying and she brought up how she has a hard time remembering Tom's birthday. Anyway tonight I just feel sad. not b/c of a forgotton gift the Genesis. I can buy that on my own but because it is symbolic of the fact that my mommy is getting to an age where things that were once paramount in her mind are easily forgotten. @capayvalleychick has met my mom a couple of times. She does really well but this was really telling today.
My grandma is 84. We are noticing a lot of changes. When she is tired or doesn't feel good she'll forget the most basic things. It is very hard to watch.

But it will be a great tasting boy when it does grow out.

@ronott1 I didn't see it in your signature but I will subscribe to the link. Was actually able to watch two videos on dispatching today but am disturbed by the twitching....they still look so lifelike and aware. We have a high power pellet pistol and because it is less hands on the lopper method appeals to me. I would just worry about sharpness. I think we are going with the sharp knives on sat.

@Audio51 I need to search for more of his videos. I couldn't tell what he was doing but he got good results for sure.

@CackleJoy and Liz Congrats on the pips...

Sorry to be a downer...I love the pip news. Keep it coming!!! Any anyone else who has pics of fowl as winter weather gear, I would like to see those too.

I hear you about the memory loss. My Grandma Sweetie did the same thing. She was not able to process short term memory into long term memory so she forgot that we were visiting her at the hospital when we went to lunch.

You do not have to see them do the death shake. Hang them up or put them into a cone. Dispatch with the method of choice and go away for 10 minutes. I set up a garbage bucket with a brick in the bottom and line with a plastic bag.

I was at the feed store when they opened up the box somehow a few chicks were in the wrong quarter of the box. Light Brahma in with SLW etc. Did you get a leghorn???

I had to keep quiet at TSC. The worker was telling a customer that she needed to either give the chicks medicated feed for the first three weeks or medicated feed.

Oh My!

When I was there today, there was another lady buying straight run Silkies. The worker told her that he didn't think Silkie Roo's will crow, so straight run shouldn't be a problem. I said, "ummm, yes they crow."

Our co-op is getting up for "Chick Days", BSL and Production Reds are the freebies this year. They had Light Brahmas that were solid white, no gray anywhere. Must resist, but they were so cute!

I missed the original post. /hugs. My Nana had a stroke that destroyed her short term memory Before she passed. It was very hard on everyone but especially her sons.

So this chick that has had its beak out for 12 hours. What do I do? There are 13 other ones pipped. I don't really want to open the bator and harm them just to save the one. Especially since interfering with the hatch is such an iffy proposition. Tonight at midnight starts day 21. Should I wait? The original ones that had pipped this morning have done nothing. Do they ever just give up or are they in a resting stage?
