I'm pleased with it, although I really want those last two Langshan eggs to hatch! I now have 3 brooders full of chicks and need to get them on craigslist before the next batch hatches in a week.

I sure am tempted by the Langshans beautiful pink eggs! I even have a framed, old print of white Langshans I picked up at a yard sale, in my kitchen that I love.

she long ago got up off the remaining eggs, since she has three little chicks that did hatch -- so i'd put them in the incubator, but no sign of any life, and in fact i'm pretty sure all three were clears. so they got taken out last night (end of day 24, when the chicks in the nest hatched early on day 21)

yes, but important qualifier: EVERY egg from my own flock that i've put in the RCom has hatched, with the exception of a few clears -- I've only had trouble with shipped eggs, to the problem is clearly not with the incubator. and these past few weeks have been staggered hatches, which have worked out unexpectedly well (first group of 6 hatched 3/4, then 4 more on 3/17, and now 12 on 3/25).

now the incubator only contains 17 shipped isbar eggs, set on friday 3/21 -- they've been sitting in a carton so the hatching babies wouldn't kick them around, and i'm hoping the stillness has helped their air cells settle/reattach -- will be interested to see how they do!

and when i checked in on the brooder this morning, one of the new babies was out from under the EcoGlow, and had gotten weak with the cold -- popped it back underneath, hopefully it wasn't too far gone that it can warm up and recover. silly baby!

I finally get into a co-op and I have no eggs. go figure. I bought a fridge because I had so many... go figure... UG!

In 6 months you'll have lots of eggs! As for your chickens not laying, could they have worms or lice/mites?

Good morning! I woke up at 4 this morning to check on a hatching chick. It is one of my Langshans and true to form was the last to hatch. I have two more Langshan eggs that show no signs of activity. Last night was day 22 so I'll leave them in there another day or so. I set 25 eggs to hatch and 23 hatched so not bad. The breeder who sold me the Langshan trio told me that she hatches the eggs on their sides so I tried that this time. There was a lot of football going on in there but it seems like they hatched better on their sides instead of big end up in cartons which is the way I have done it up to now. The majority of the chicks are Pita Pintas. I love seeing a brooder full of little yellow chicks with black markings! They are so cute!

Her color looks like the regular cuckoo with a blush of dun (chocolate) that only shows in a certain light. That picture was taken when I had just put new roosting boards in, but I am pretty anal about keeping their houses and runs clean. I go through a lot of shavings!!

thanks! it's quite a relief, after my early hatches went so poorly.

and an extra plug for the RCom -- because the interior is all hard plastic, it doesn't smell, and took less than ten minutes to clean up after hatching a dozen chicks -- it's all set again, happily humming away, and the isbar eggs won't have any more interruptions for a while!
