So i had to move my polish hen innto my banyam coop (with the 5 week old chicks but shes in a divided part) i walked outside and she was covered in mud and sleeping out in the run while it was raining. i tbink she was the bottom of the pecking order
I had to take two of my Polish into the coop at night almost every night because they would end up roosting outside. It finally dawned on me that maybe they couldn't see very well. After I trimmed her crest on the sides only, she went in by herself every night after that. Poor girl couldn't see enough to get inside.

Last year there was an April Fool about merging BYC with Face Book!
I got taken on that one last year too. This year, I didn't have any interest in broodies so no go.

Thanks Kim!

It is amazing to see that badge on there. It does not seem real yet.

They should be able to go outside at 6 weeks old. The weather is supposed to warm up again too.

They are so cute when they get to go outside!
It is supposed to be low 80's be the beginning of next week. I am sitting here freezing right now and next week, I will be thinking about turning the AC on, I am sure.

Note to self,

Never trust Silkies to find their way back to their coop while free-ranging in heavy downpour.

I had to drag in 12 soaked, grumpy birdies.

You know I like Silkies in general and I have had a few. They are pretty docile and make a good pet chicken. I am starting to wonder if they are sweet or just too stupid to be scared?

what is the cost of that genisis? getting tired of my wafer tinkering and that window is sooo big!
Get the kit from GQF. If it still comes with quail, call them to order and ask for Coturnix.
Bobwhite seem to be hated a lot lately. The cost is $204 from them. Free shipping and quail eggs and rails.

Incubator warehouse has it for less:

but shipping brings it to the same cost without the quail rails or quail eggs.

This is probably the wrong group to ask, because they just go get eggs to hatch for their broodies, but...... is it possible that a broodie will never come out of it if they don't hatch or have a baby chick to mother? Is it possible that they could stay broodie indefinitely?

My hatch is all done too.
Out of 24 orpington eggs set in the incubator, I had 6 clears (chocolate), 2 early quitters (jubilee), & 4 that fully developed but never pipped (jubilee) Of the 12 that hatched successfully, i have 4 lemon cuckoos, 1 chocolate, & 7 jubilee. I lost one of the lemon cuckoo chicks the first night - it had curled toes & splayed legs but I guess there was more not right internally.
They are funny chicks: a little spooky when you first reach for them but calm & kinda dopey otherwise. So round & plump already.
The other 5 chocolate orp chicks under the broody are doing even better.
It's really neat to see them grow up side by side.

Okay maybe this got lost but i kinda need to know "oKay question Bout moving chickens. I have a phoenix rooster that im going to mate with my silkies when theyare older. But would i be able to put him in with the 5 week olds? In a divided pen of course but qhere he can see them"
