Hey Ron, since you asked..............

Bee inspection time this morning before it gets hot. I was very surprised at how quickly they are fillling up the super.

It's difficult to hold a heavy frame of honey with bees on it in one hand and take pictures through a veil with the other hand. But here's what I got:

One of the outer frames. Partially capped honey, and uncapped honey.

This frame is filling up nicely.

Looks like I'll need to start honey extraction in a few weeks.

We have 2 deeps for the brood boxes. We chose to go with the shallow frames for the honey super because the frames are heavy when loaded with honey.

Exactly what I have now & am getting ready to add a queen excluder & another shallow super just for the honey. We are new to this so are taking instructions from the ol' timers in the bee g club I just joined. We will be inspecting hopefully next week after the hustle of getting ready for the "Chicken Party" is over. One fun hurdle at a time for this old lady.............lol

What do you guys think, would this be a good bator? It has good reviews on Amazon. My mom can get it for me when she goes down to Sac.
Looks like an very good one to me but I am not familiar with that brand. It has temp, humidity & a turner good deal.

I've searched for a used Gensis but couldn't find one. Time is of the essence if I decide to get my own incubator, as there's only 8 days until the first eggs need to be set.
I found a Hovabator:

Little Giant Circulated Air Incubator

Or 48-egg incubator. I figure if I don't like it I can always sell it.

Which would be best for a house with varying temperatures?
I know the Hovabator will work but that looks like the cost of a new one

Sigh. I'm so freaking tired of being chronically ill, all my friends have jobs & money...meanwhile I have $125 to my name because I'm too sick to get a job. Sorry, ranting, it's just so annoying. Buying an incubator would probably take all my money. Just not sure if I want to do it. I mean, I REALLY want to, but it's a matter of "should I"...I could probably make my money back from selling the Tolbunt Polish chicks...but that's if they were to hatch. I'm scared I'd do something wrong and then I'm out $100.

Cruz Craig's List...you might be able to get something cheap with now since a lot of people are finished hatching for the season.

I'm crying. The 2/24 d'uccle chicks that hatched from Ron Tallent died. They were almost two weeks old in with one week old Ameraucana chicks. Why would they die?

So sorry.

Took some pictures of my garden. It's growing nicely this year:) harvested some potatoes and snow peas. I will soon have zucchini, carrots and green beans too.

PS having snow peas for breakfast doesn't go very well with coffee, LOL.

Beautiful garden!

Very nice! Are those 1/2 frames? I remember the ones our bees had being wider

I di remember them beeing very heavy. Do you have one of the spinner things to extract?

I think the circulated air one might be your best bet for the money..

Drive three(or two check the limit) of them over to UCD. CAHFS.ucdavis.edu

They have a drop off room with a refrigerator.

You do not have to do special packing--Double bag them

I just called the one for the circulated air incubator and it led me to the voicemail of a carpet cleaning place...interesting...

Yep, I have the queen excluder as well. I've been researching most of the day whether to harvest the honey when it's full, or just add another super on top and harvest all at once. The blackberries are starting to bloom, so it's going to fill up FAST!

Yes, a friend of ours has an extractor we can borrow.

Beautiful! Wow, potatoes already? I don't usually harvest mine until fall. I got a late start on my sugar snap peas, so they are just starting to blossom. I planted extra red seed potatoes, I was running low on reds. I have not tried the purple potatoes.
