Orpingtons are such smooshy, fuzzy little ones. I've had lots of Orpingtons but always got them as pullets or hens, never as fuzzy chicks until now.

Ecoli and salmonella are hard to kill. Activated oxine is safe as long as you aren't breathing it in. As Kim says it is safer then nailpolish.

how do you avoid breathing it in. do you mix it in a squirt bottle outside and just turn your he'd away

I suppose when I sign her up for something (vet, training, etc.), I should spell it Kaylee, but it is her registered name. Anyone that looks at it stares a minute, then stutters a bit, then stumbles over..........uhhhhhhh.......... "Seal-da"?

Then I have to explain the Celtic meaning and they always end up gushing over what a cool name it is.

I clean mine with a 10% vinegar solution. I have the same one as yours. I blow on the fans real good to get the dander out

Need to check out the blowing out of the fans maybe that's why mine was stuck when I first got it. Thanks Jason

We love Celtic names. With a surname like McCombs we've had license to splurge a bit. The children's 1st names are pretty normal but we used traditional spelling on all the middle ones. With our last child I was told that we had saddled them with unwanted names. How rude. She was single and had no children so all of her opinions are unchallenged. (I have found that parenting is a most humbling experience).
So I must share:
Nolan (means Noble, also Great Grma surname) Creag (p. Creeag, means rock)

Elsie (Scottish diminutive of Elisabeth, hit 3 of 4 great grandma's in one name, means God is my helper) Aine (p. Onya, means Joy, not after the singer, my middle name is Joy)

Aislinn (p. Ayezlyn, means vision) Aoibh (p. Eve, means beauty)

Maive (p. Mayvie, means cause of great joy) Sinead (p. Shuhnade, means God is gracious and is a very cool version of Jane).

We think names should be worthy of living up to and hope that our children do so with theirs.

Your names are Lovely Rebecca but does Noble Nolan know you are using his BYC sign in...........LOL I so enjoyed having your entire family here Sunday. Happy Birthday to your father. Was it Aislin/vision the one you had trouble getting out of the pool???? So funny.................. I am serious....... you & your family are welcomed to come & swim anytime. We can make an afternoon of it & do lunch & let the kids swim.

That's exciting! I'm looking forward to seeing those. I'm waiting on my late pippers today so I can set the eggs I picked up at the party .

Good idea - hadn't thought about lysol. I use bleach/water to clean mine.

For the Genesis 1588 incubators, I carefully take out the water tray, Take off the wire and then dump as much as I can into the toilette. I then rinse the whole thing in the shower. The Lysol spray is next and it sits for 5 min. or so. I use brushes to work on the stains and then rinse it all with the shower spray. I also use a Q tip to make sure the bottom vent holes are clean. pieces of egg shells and etc. will clog those up. I let it air dry and then set it up for incubating or hatching.

I will be doing all of this again tonight--The UofA blues and OEs are still hatching. The first chick hatched Sunday morning and the last two hatched This morning, Tuesday. They take a long time to hatch and these eggs were all collected within one week so they were not old.
