California - Northern

Trying to catch up. I went camping and ended up coming home with an ear infection and pneumonia. Not feeling up to posting much.

Flowers of abba - so sorry to hear about your problems with a bear. I hope your fortifications prevent any more losses.

I hope you feel better soon!

Partridge Penedesenca chicks with their Foster Mom at 2 weeks old:

They are eating black beans!

Well the last one hatched, another boy!
tommysgirl: I can just about gaurantee you have all pullets because I believe I hatched all the boys this side of the Mississippi! It's virtually impossible for anyone else to have boys this season

nice way to look positive! Out of these bazillion boys I should have at least 1 rock star!

on all but the first line.

Does anyone here do Jumbo Cots? Um... no reason.

We are still camping and having a great time. Went for a drive and I now have a slip of paper with a phone number for muscovies that came from the board at the OBrien store...

I know you have wanted them.   That's great!

I'm not sure my DH is convinced we need them. Also, with Oregon's fireworks selling season starting Monday and California's starting on the 28th, now is not the time for new animals. Darn it.

Just migrated the buffs to the big coop and put them on the roost everyone seemed confused. The roost is a bit high for the dels I think. We shall see what craziness happens tomorrow morning when everyone is more awake. Tired chickens are very plyable.

My cross beak Del is getting big. I think a pullet now. She does very will even with the cross beak.

She saved me from having to trim the top of the beak by breaking it off her self!

What a smart chicken.

It looked gruesome for a while but she is thriving so I will go with it.

Well my dels arrived at the feed store on the 26 of February which put today 16 weeks from that date. Ive read they tend to lay at 20 weeks. I guess I better start watching soon and get them out of sleeping in the nest box.

Good luck!

You can try moving them to the roost each night. The roost is higher than the nest box? That helps but is not always the cure. Some of them just like the nest box too much.

The Cross Beak is a New heritage, which means she will start laying later. I don not know how old she is but somewhere in late February or early March sounds right.
