Such beautiful photos! You people with mature trees should be grateful. That's something that you can't simply add to a property without them. I have big tree envy.

Cooper, that snow scene is so lovely. Is there snow on Apple Hill?

Laura, your sitting area looks divine, the pink chairs are perfect. When I first looked at the last pic, I thought you were wearing ruby slippers! I must be in Oz today ... need more coffee, lol!

So sorry, Chiquita, for your loss.

Ron, why am I not surprised that your incubator did not stay packed away for long?!

Happy Sunday everyone!

thanks! the pink chairs are new, originally intended to get green but the pink were on sale, and now i think they have a more cozy feeling to them...

and the coop just got the ultimate test of impenetrability: heard the chickens all freaking out, and looking down to the meadow i saw a HUGE bobcat, at least the size of a coyote, prancing all around the coop -- but couldn't get in! he ran off once i opened a door to come out (hence no photo), but my gosh he was gigantic -- but no chicken breakfast for him! (glad i hadn't let the girls out to free-range yet!)

edit: and have to add, i keep hoping we'll get snow at some point this winter -- my house is a little above 1600 ft on Sonoma Mtn, so it's possible! Cooper, your snow pictures have got me jonesing for it even more!

so chilly these last few mornings! i'm ever-thankful for the woodstove that i splurged on last year -- it's keeping the cats and i warm and cozy. but it's nice to be home & able to let the flock out of their coop, so the big girls will pick on the newcomers less -- and i snapped a few pictures yesterday morning:

the big girls checking out the frost!

amelia examining a tomato, once the big girls went out to free-range...

eleanor, who has become the boss of the younger flock

lucy, the new cream legbar

maggie, the new basque, who is getting picked on the most -- but she's hanging in there!

my little sitting area next to the coop -- as the leaves come off the oaks, it's getting sunnier!

me and ethel, motoring on by!
Great Pictures of your chickens.

The Last two pictures are Surreal. Very Artsy types of photos. I hope they will fit into a photo contest at some time. Oddly the evoke some emotions when I see them, so they must be art right?

Luckily I won't be keeping the ones in my incubators now. One hatch is scheduled for Friday. I need to set up for lockdown on Tuesday. The other is hatching on the 23.

Who is scared by staggered hatching? It is very exciting. I will need to set up the hatch cam since they hatch on a work day.
Quote: That is one of the frustrating things abut the Game of Thrones Series on HBO and the Books. Winter is always coming but never is Here! Of course they live on a planet with extra moons and Seasons that are very different from ours. Seasons last a long time with mini seasons within the seasons.

Oddly, some think Game of Thrones is set in Medieval times on our Earth.

Jason, I just hatched more Amelias..... I hatched 4 girls and two boys (3 of the girls are Crele Pene X CL and one is Partridge Pene X CL, both boys are CPxCL) . I would like to grow em out for awhile and document how they develop. I certainly don't need all for future breeding so let me know when you are set up in your new house

yes there was. not alot at Apple Hill. At least the low spots. The upper part of the hill got more. 3200 feet and higher was the point which it stuck the most. apple hill ranges from 2200 to 3400-3500. fairly early for snow. though the last few Novembers we have gotten some in the early to mid part of the month.

I always see bobcat sighting signs on our road. had a bear in my garbage. Mountain Lions getting the neighbor's goats but nothing ever really coming around the chicken area. just had 1 coyote and a few hawks.
My friend had to rescue a chicken out of a bobcat's mouth last week. must of just grabbed it because he said the chicken was fine. though yesterday he lost a chicken to his new Livestock gaurdian puppy.

thanks! all taken with iphone/instagram...

and my neighbor has offered to set up his critter-cam by my coop, so perhaps we can get a picture of the bobcat if he comes back!
