Can Anyone Help Me?

I have tried to attack the core reasons, and it has worked to a degree. Now, suddenly, the council is getting too busy to look into this, and must look into other "more important" issues. The e-mails are to cast some sort of doubt into council that would prevent them from just voting no on the issue at the next meeting. I also have people in my town there supporting me, I just thought that this would help as well. Other towns around allow chickens to a degree, but, with many space restrictions that cut out many people.

Have you collected signatures from fellow citizens requesting that the ordinance be changed? The more the better, usually a percentage of the people--the larger the population, the smaller the number that is necessary.

City councils have many important issues to consider, but listening to the wants and desires of their citizens is one of them.

Thanks, I'll look into that. I am working on the community too, the only problem is that no one here has chickens, so, they can't explain to council why they are so great. That is why I came here to ask for help.

We are getting the same song and dance from our city council here in Salem, Oregon. We have gathered the support of the neighborhood associations (12 out of 19 and counting), over 1000 petition signatures, letters from local groups involved with food share, tilth issues, sustainability, etc, letters from surrounding cities who have experienced no negative side to allowing their residents to have a few hens...... and still some of the council members feel that this is not an issue that they want to deal with.

All we can do is keep at them. Hopefully both cities will wake up! We are also appearing before council again tomorrow. Good luck to you!

Andy..i sent you the e-mail....i didnt have their address. can you just forward it to them if you think its okay to send? good luck!

I'm astounded right now. The fact that you guys would take the time to write these wonderful thought out letters just to help someone else humbles me.

I just hope it is enough to help persuade council.

Tomorrow afternoon is the deadline if anyone else would like to send e-mails.

Just let me know!

I wish I could send more, I would! I think its so ridiculous that towns still won't allow them?! Our country once understood self preservation.... now its off to selling our health and wellness to the highest bidder with a tax break for the right to feed us what they want to feed us!

I think as a people of this country we should have the right to grow and raise our own food...

Find out if owning a tiger is illegal in your town?! If that ain't, you're sure to win a few hens!!!
