Can you Please . Help Me Determine . What I These for Sure ???

Ok, so narrowing it down by a specific hatchery is not an option. We will forge ahead with Mystery Chickens!

#1st Chicken - Amber Link
  • Amber links are hybrid chickens (created by crossing 2 specially bred parents).
  • They come in a variety of feathering - some that look almost all white, and others have a lot of buff, light chestnut-brown, red-ish areas.
  • Has a single comb
  • Has red earlobes
  • Las clean legs (no feathers)
  • Lays brown eggs
Some examples:
Does she look like these? If not, what is different about her?

Here are some threads on Amber Links - looking at the photos could be a good way to compare your chicken to know Amber Links.

Great! That's one bird down!

This is a good idea! With photos peps with more experience than I could likely tell what breed/mix of breeds your chickens are.
Would a friend or neighbor take photos of your birds for you?

If you got some of your chickens from family it would be a good idea to ask them what breeds they have in their flock. Unless they carefully managed the breedings, it is likely that your birds may be back-yard mixes - which is just fine, it just makes them more unique ;) (but can also make identifying them tricky).

#2nd - All White Hens, Brown Egg Layers
Lets get some more details on your birds:
  • Brown egg layers. Light tan? Dark Brown? (Check out this egg/breed chart)
  • What kind of comb do they have? (This BYC article is a good reference)
  • What color are their earlobes? (I assume red since they lay brown eggs)
  • What color are their legs/feet?
  • Do they have feathers on their lower legs/ feet?
  • If they are adults how heavy are they?
  • If you remember, what did they look like as chicks?

Have you seen Henderson's Chicken Comparison Chart? It is a good resource for seeing which bred characteristics your hens match.
