Can I use a natural oil, like olive oil to temporary replace the natural oil Muscovy's make while waiting on new feathers from a molt? Doing the treatment for wet feather at this time. Feel like I'm bathing away what oil he is getting spread around at this pace. Never had this problem we got a bad cold snap in the middle of the molt only one an old one has been affected, he's probably 18 yrs. Do have a heated environment for them, (not lights) Thank You.

Olive oil isn't going to help it will actually cause the feathers to just be oily which won't help at all.

I would keep him out of water until he is through with his molt especially if it's cold and with his age.

I have 12.5 yr old Muscovy that haven't even molted yet this year, I am beginning to think they aren't going to :(

I have bathed him in warm water, he actually enjoyed himself, he did finally get accustomed to the hair dryer and enjoyed that also, but when I check him he seems to be damp again that is why I questioned if there was something I could do, I have read two different articles now and I plan on continuingly drying him and making sure the oil gland is working and get him some more foods for feathers, he has been getting 30% protein cat kibble along with his grains. Thank you.
