Candeling and hatching diary.

HUMM good information HOWEVER, I have notice that when I Stop turning mine FOUR days before hatching and lay them with the Larger end slightly Higher then the smaller end, It really seems to help with Upside downers and Malpositioned chicks. There's no mentioning of this, I have read the more turning the better, but I do disagree with turning them three times a day you will get a lot of malpostions, that can be avoided if you do what I have done as far as stop the turning four days before due date...

I am currently trying my hand at hatching 3 SL Wyandotte bantams with a rented rcom
Incubator. I haven't done a huge amount of research on incubators, the whole thing sounds scary and so easy to mess up but this one is fully automated even turns the eggs itself. Just have to top up the water every few days.

After day 10 or so I believe I've got 2 definite fertile eggs, I can see a big dark splotch at one end and vein formation at least. The third was a dud and just looked like a normal infertile egg. (I candled both to compare). I'm so scared to keep them out of the incubator even for a second though so my candling has been very brief!

What day should I candle again and should I expect to see movement like the last post? That would be amazing if I could see that! Fingers crossed both hatch anyway. I'll be so devastated if they don't.

This was my first candling attempt at around day 4 or 5.

Cute pictures to share of the chicks hatched a few weeks ago on thru ones hatched yesterday. Yesterdays hatch was 11 set in the Brinsea and 11 hatched! Nice after having such a bad hatch for the Easter HAL. Also took the guts out of the Hova-bator and put into my steak cooler bator as the turner fit perfectly. The foam is 3 times as thick as the Hova and is holding temps steady and no more having to duct tape the seams to keep heat in. Also set 48 Production Eggs, 18 Speckled Sussex, 7 BLRW and 8 EE lastnight. I have 9 EE, 7 SS and 6 BLRW set to hatch May 4th also.

And here's the cute chickies.

Beautiful babies.

I am devastated. I have 11 clear eggs that stopped developing near day 14. And 1 chick possibly upside down in the egg? I can't tell if she is alive or not. Today is day 19.

I had so many hatch upside down this year and not a one last year. They all made it too without any help from me. Last year I helped alot of chicks but this year I'm letting it in Gods hands. If they don't hatch on their own it just wasn't meant to be I figure as I did help one White Rock and it's not seeming to do so well. Has pastey butt and really little and chirps non stop. I don't figure it will make it and if it does will be a miracle.

Now if I were to buy some expensive eggs it would be a whole different story!
