Can't get Tylan in California, what now?

We are have two chickens, one escaped from some bird fighting people so we kept her and we got another to keep her company. We are very new to this. Now they seem to have got gapeworm or a respiratory illness. Not running nose but lethargy, closing eyes often and opening beak. The one is a Catalana, won't let us handle her, she free ranges and eats snails and worms so I think gapeworm sounds likely but I want to treat for respiratory in general just in case.

We don't have a lot of money for a vet, even the meds may be a challenge (we shot our wad on a coop). I had after reading I decided to purchase some Tylan 50 or 200 and some worm meds but nobody can sell me the Tylan in California!

What can I do now? The pet meds place I called said they can't even sell me an alternative. Is there some kind of version for pets or fish that I can get? Anything, please help!

So far with most of these places i can put the stuff in my cart but when I try to check out it says they won't ship to California. I'll go give it try though, thank you.

Somebody recommended a tea. I am making them a tea of oregano, rosemary, cinnamon and sage. I sure wish i could do something more for them though.

You need to be resourceful. Do you have a friend or relative in aother state that could order the meds, have them shipped to them, then mail them to you?

I would call KVSupply and talk to them.

Nope on the out of state people. I seem to have been able to complete a transaction with somebody, we'll see if they cancel it, I have my fingers crossed. I also don't think I have time to ship to another state and then here, if I can help it. Sooner is better, it's been a few days already of us fumbling trying to figure out the problem.

Now that you know that California law will limit you obtaining antibiotics for your chickens, if you manage to locate a source, lay in a couple years supply so you will always have some on hand. The fish antibiotics are exactly the same antibiotics with a fish label.

That's good to know, thank you!

They seem to have got better on their own, while we were waiting. I am very relieved!

Also, if you live near the border, you can pick up a lot in Mexico. My neighbor just went down there to visit relatives and picked up a few packs of oxytetracycline 10.
