Chantecler Thread!

I'm interested in adding a few Chantecler chicks to my crew. I'm looking for a hatchery or breeder in driving distance of northern MA. I'm not interested in having them shipped as I have not had good luck with this in the past.

You might have some good luck at one of the shows to find a breeder with good stock to start you off with. :)

Hitting the road tomorrow for the APA Canadian Nationals in Red Deer! I am bringing five Partridge Chanteclers, and my partner is bringing eight. We look forward to a weekend of learning and networking!

I thought someone here might find this interesting. In the 1938 SOP, the Partridge Chantecler weights are:
Cock - 10 lbs
Cockerel - 8 1/2 lbs
Hen - 7 1/2 lbs
Pullet - 6 1/2 lbs

These are the weights in the 1935 article in Canadian Poultryman by Dr Wilkinson that is on the Chantecler Fancier's website vs the much lighter weights in the 1942 and current standards being lowered to be the same as Oka Chantecler.

The 1938 SOP is available at Amazon - see page 146 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006TE7W8Y/ref=docs-os-doi_0

The 1942 SOP is available on Hathi for free - see page 142 http://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=coo.31924003039892

I haven't weighed Laura but I don't think she'd go 7.5 pounds.

Here is our BV BB Reserve American pullet at the Canadian National APA Show from our South location (looking a little rumpled from being taken out of her cage)

Our RV cockerel, also from our South location

Some of our younger birds from our North location who didn't place as high, but we're looking forward to their future show careers:

4th place cockerel (he is too short in the back and his chest will hopefully fill in more with maturity)

4th place pullet

Both locations of Gala Partridge Chanteclers collectively took 1st through 4th place in pullets (class of 9), 1, 2, 4 and 5th in cockerels (class of 6), and 1st place in hens (class of 2).

There were 47 Large Fowl Chanteclers representing Partridge, White and Buff, as well as some White Bantams.

Really lovely chanteclers everyone, the show I went to in Washington last week only had three! I've been trying (with varying amounts of success) to get a nice flock going for several years now, near Hood River in northern Oregon. I'm looking for folks who will ship juveniles to Oregon, or will sell at shows nearby. If anyone is/knows a breeder meeting those specifications, I'd love to purchase and hop fully on board with this neat breed.
