@Prairie Fleur just thought I would move the discussion over here.

Just got my eggs from @TJChickens. I bought a dozen bantam eggs, and I got 18! They all arrived in perfect shape. I asked for as many porcelain d'uccles as possible, and I got 13 of them and some other eggs that I'm not sure what they are that I'm excited to hatch and find out!

Problem is, he doesn't buy that very readily! He firmly believes that while I may make some small portion of it back, in general it's mostly just an expensive hobby. I did manage to make a decent amount back on my goats this year so not Everything I get enthused about it a money drain.
It doesn't help that I lost my spring job this year when my boss sold her business. I felt like I could spend a bit since I made something. if I earn it I can mostly spend it on whatever I like, altho he did ask me a while back, "now, just exactly How many chickens are we going to have??"
"Ummm, lots?" I offered. He was pretty skeptical but told me we'd figure out someway to keep them and make it all work after he had a little time to get used to the idea and he saw how much it meant to me. I love my hubby! The chicken thing went from, a few hens for eggs to we want a rooster so they can raise chicks to I want a colorful eggs basket to I want to breed 10 different breeds of chickens, ducks, pheasants and peafowl!!!!!
New Eggs Beware!!! BYC gets you in its whirlpool and it's a rapid decent!!!! Lol

I started out with 6 hatchery hens and a rooster given to us by our neighbors for eggs. I now have 6 different pure breeds (some with more than one breeding group) and a few projects and I'm not even going to count how many chickens that I have right now.

Ya, I'm not counting either!!! :highfive: and I'm one of those girls that only ever had a dog or cat growing up and much as I loved animals couldn't get my folks to get me any. My little brother had a few chickens but they lived in our front yard and there was poop everywhere. We went barefoot most of the time and I HATED stepping in chicken poo all the time. I vowed I would NEVER have chickens. Makes a world of difference if you have space for them!!! :D
