CHICHESTER, NH CHICKEN SWAP-( SAT. JUNE 27TH!!)

As i understand it, technically chickens don't get colds, however they sure can get respiratory illnesses. Such illnesses can be viral, fungal, or bacterial. And my vet told me that sometimes a chicken gets a viral respiratory illness, then gets a secondary infection that is bacterial. I've read more than i ever really wanted to know about these things in the past week. I must say, i trust my vet more than what i read on the internet. He's been great.

Ok now what was that? Why through the eggs away? Can i still incubate them?

My vet said you just can't eat the eggs. The antibiotics are not ok for human consumption. I'm not sure about incubating them, i don't know much about incubating eggs.

Im really excited today is nice and sunny out. I just put up a fresh pen outside the chicken coop and my birds really seem happy to be outside and sun bathing in the warm sun! It did rain for about an hour but now the sun is back out and making everything dry again! Yeha for sun!

Today, we had gone on a short outing, and on our way back, stopped at a free yardsale about a mile from home. Suddenly it poured heavy rain on us while there---lasted maybe 10 minutes. Came home, only a few drops fell here---the grass was still pretty much dry! There is a nice breeze kicking up too, so things are drying nicely.

My chickens are really happy to have some nice weather too. On the rainy overcast days, my bantam rooster would sit on the perch next to the window in the coop, and he would crow and crow. It was as if he was begging the sun to please come out! LOL

My husband made me another prtable mini tractor today, so I put the younger d'uccles out and they are so happy! The 3 of them are sooo sweet! I also put the turken out in a makeshift ex-pen and he is mad cause there is no one in it with him to play with! he is like a big baby huey! He is only 12 weeks old and bigger than my year old seabright!

duramycin is tetracycline- if you are a child and eat the eggs, it can cause the permanent teeth to be stained yellow. if you incubate the eggs, it can cause birth defects in the chicks (affecting the long bones).

I know that rpegnant women should not have tetracycline because it can affect the teeth of the unborn baby even!
