I have a hen sitting on some eggs and so far three have hatched. The first two are problem free, but the third has some kind of wound. It’s like the skin was sliced open. It’s not bleeding, but looks pretty bad. I’m pretty sure the muscle is showing but it almost looks like there’s still a layer of skin left.
I put antibiotic ointment on and wrapped it but I don’t know if this will heal.
Has anyone ever dealt with something like this?
What do I do?
Do I keep her wrapped and under a heat lamp or put her down?

I’m not sure if this is the same but I got a chick from TSC that had something similar to that. Except it looked like someone had cut her with knife and didn’t finish the job. She was healed by the time I got her. So this makes me think your chick should heal. As long as the wound is kept clean and cared for I don’t see why it wouldn’t heal. See if the chick can eat, drink and get around on its own. Maybe give it a shot.

Well some good news. I kept the wound covered with neosporin for a few days and kept an eye on here. Put an electrolyte mix in with her water and I’m happy to say that less than a week later here she is.
