I'm in the UK too and the worst potential bitey thing in the home (besides the family pet dog) would be a false widow spider.

I've found a couple of those lately.

But...could it have been a tumour? Or a hidden injury that got infected? Those seem more likely to me.

I agree that she had a bite also and by having a bite of some kind whether venomous or not she became septic and gangrenous. The infection took over its little body and it really just became one big abscess. The meat and organs rotted and filled with puss or vice versa and it keeper over. Surprised it lived that long. Probably a testament to the good care you were giving it is why it lived as long as it did. You never know. Even animal bites can become infected from one little puncture.

That seems to make sense, but i wonder what could of caused that bite as I'm sure we don't have venomous animals/insects in our area. Do you know of any animal/insect which could of caused this to happen. also i forgot to mention, Lulu's skin was puffy the next day before she died as if there was air inside.

i thought that it could of been a tumour but doubted as she was so young and showed lethargic symptoms from day 1. i don't think it was an injury as there was no scar or signs of one. i think it could of been a venomous bite or a tumour. we did let them out into the garden and so a venomous bite from that spider could seem plausible.

perhaps it was a congenital issue that she was just born with. If your other chicks are fine then that is a good sign that it may not have been an environmental factor. You may never get the answers you seek, but just keep an eye on the rest
