I actually kept her with the group. I asked an ag teacher at the high school I teach at and he said he believes she is just blind. So I am hoping she will be just fine.

I could never get this to load- must be my internet??I see no reason to isolate this chick unless she is getting picked on. I would leave her with her group and see how she does at adjusting. I agree that it could be a birth defect, and the eye looks like it may have a cataract with the cloudiness. Chickens can get eye disorders from high ammonia levels, vitamin E deficiency, and avian encephalomyelitis. The link that ChickensAreSweet gave you is very good, and this one is as well, but it takes some minutes to download, so be patient: http://www.joneshamiltonag.com/jh/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/PLT_Poultry-Eye-Disorders.pdf
Oh OK! I hope all works out for her!I actually kept her with the group. I asked an ag teacher at the high school I teach at and he said he believes she is just blind. So I am hoping she will be just fine.
Yes, it used to take a few minutes to download, but now I can't download it either. Too bad, since it was a good link.I could never get this to load- must be my internet??

The hatchery tractor supply is getting chicks from is sending them defective chicks. I know a girl at my local tsc that said they have received several with severe cross beaks. I picked up some bantams today, she took me to the side and brought out this chick and asked if id take it home for free. Its a standard size chick. Poor things head is deformed it is missing an eye and the top beak is very crooked. I didn't think it'd be alive when I got home from work but this chick is a fighter. Its been able to drink water with save a chick. I crumbled up some food and managed to get some in the bottom beak. I've also taken the water with save a chick and feed and made it a mush, now it follows my hand around the tubI know some would say kill it or let it die, being the animal lover I am I will try to help it. Its not acting lethargic its up and moving as much as my bantams its with. Maybe I could file back its top beak so it could scoop food. The top gets in the way it tries to use the top but the bottom doesn't line up for it to be able to grab food like a normal chick. I was told they have received several like this, they kept them in the back and gave away a group that had grown and survived, sounds to me like tsc needs to switch hatcheries, almost sounds like they're being shipped intentionally to them![]()
I'm not sure if they can send them back but they have asked ppl to take them free. I don't know how long it will live but its a fighter and really trying. I couldn't refuse after seeing that face it now follows my hand like a puppy and hops on
